HQ et moi on KL bus

30 06 2007

we were so adventurous tat we took a
bus from KLCC to bukit bintang.

i oso took a cab, the monorail and train
for the first   time!  i nbr took public
  transport in KL before.

  the buses were pretty good.
  nice, new and clean.

Blue Lobster

30 06 2007

juz back from team dinner @ blue lobster.

great place, ambience was excellent, food selection and quality is good but location’s abit unusual.  it’s tucked bet a 7-11 and 美珍香 along frankel ave.

i had a medium rare lamb rack tat was good.  i nbr tried anything short of well done for lamb so the tenderness of the lamb was a pleasant surprise.

oso pinched a little of dot’s lobster.  nice but tiny compared to wat we had in nha trang and wat a huge price diff.  the lobsters in nha trang were juz grilled and unseasoned but they taste wonderfully succulent and sweet wif salt and pepper!

didn’t reli like nha trang but for the lobster experience and the best rice paper springrolls, nha trang was not wasted trip after all.

TKD for YY

29 06 2007

i asked YY if he was interested in TKD classes yrs back but he was totally not interested.

he suddenly had a change of heart a couple of days back.

after probing, i realised it was becoz one of his girl classmates was learning.

anyway, i tink it’s cool for him to learn a new sport.

but it’s not tat easy to find him a class.  no banners ard my place and after checking PA site, it seems tat the CC near my place dun hold any classes.

asked ZC for help liao.  hopefully YY can start class soon.

Char Kway Tiao at Army Mkt

29 06 2007

had the famous char kway tiao from army mkt for lunch last wk.

besides the nice touch of adding chye sim and silver fish, the kway tiao itself taste good but not exceptional.

but i realised tis is precisely wat make the kway tiao so special.

they dun use lard yet are able to achieve the same taste of traditional char kway tiao, isn’t tat cool.  they use 上汤 to fry the char kway tiao instead.  beli innovative and their efforts pay off in the form of the queue in front of the stall every day.

the serving of ‘hum’ is beli generous!  my fav!

women 10k promo code-ESGWC

28 06 2007

pls use tis promo code ESGWC for 10% discount for women 10k

finally finished my training and can b back at my desk tml.  long day ahead but i’m happy to haf a productive day in the office.  ALOT to do!  and tml’s fri.  TGIF!   mi works better under tight timelines and pressure.  i actualli need some pressure for motivation.

preserved ginger

28 06 2007

mummy is dwn to her last few pieces of the special ginger from macau.

she said she won’t eat it unless she absolutely needs to.  wow!  i didn’t realise wat a big hit the ginger was wif her.

looks like i should make another macau trip juz to stock up on ginger.

if onli Koi Kee sells it in HK, den much easier to get

达成心愿让昙花一现

28 06 2007

there’r a few buds tat appeared since last wk.

i took some picts (which i haben uploaded) of the buds.

wasn’t sure when the flowers would bloom till mum told mi excitedly tis evening tat one of the bud is going to bloom TONITE!

and it sure did!  YY was equally excited abt it and waited up past midnite for it to b in full bloom

yes, we got picts of the flower AND YY.

heehee, am i lucky or wat?  my bday wish is granted in less a mth after my bday.

mayb i should wish for the moon and stars next yr, ha!

bz bz mind

28 06 2007

was feeling reli reli tired and went to bed after seeing the bloom.

however, my bz bz mind was still on work.   it is such a bad idea to b reading work emails b4 bed.

on a happier note, i did get up at 7am tis morning and was earli for training.

and the training was good.  i tink i took away a lot which i will rave abt at a later juncture.

getting stuff off my chest is the best way for mi to offload and unwind.

was pre-warned abt a work issue tdy and i assumed and expected it to b reli reli bad.

luckily, despite the apprehension i felt in anticipation before i got all the facts, it’s not the end of the world and i’ve been thru worse, believe mi.

so, life goes on.

y did ppl even tink tat i might react to it?  sigh, i can b a lot more composed u noe.

changing appetites

27 06 2007

was at MS for din on sun and surprised tat the place is not beli crowded.

besides a few ppl waiting at ‘dian xiao er’, there was no q dwnstairs for swensens, cafe cartel and changing appetites.

i had contemplated going over to millenia walk’s Big O cafe since it’s quite child friendly.

we ended up at changing appetites for the impressive menu…so many choices!

and they are even pro family!  on sun, a kid’s main is free wif every adult main.  tat is such a sweet gesture.  i m beli appreciate of their efforts and YY declared tis is his fav place to eat.

part of the reason was i allowed him to place his own order and he oso tried one of the baby back ribs i had.  the wide selection of desserts helped too, but we didn’t haf any room left for desserts as the potions of the mains were huge.

it’s worth mentioning tat they haf a one for one waffle promo on fri and sat from 10pm-12am.  each waffle comes wif 2 scoops of ice cream…waffles, anyone?

G-TEC C4

27 06 2007

i fell in luv wif tis pen after i borrowed it from the coach driver to fill in my white card for m’sia.

the tip is super fine and it even haf brown ink!  mi is a sucker for brown ink.  always thot it’s a totally cool colour though i nbr used it.

started using V5 recently and it seems so different from those days when all the girls were using V5 for notes.  it’s light blue, pink and purple were the most popular colours den.

nw, i feel the tip is not fine enuff and the tip smudges badly.  even some of the china brand pens i tried are much better den V5.  can’t wait for the ink to finish so i can say goodbye to V5 forever.

women’s 10k

27 06 2007

yes, it looks like i’ll b doing the 5km ‘fun’ run tis yr.

为朋友,只好两肋插刀了!

姐姐妹妹们,还请多多支持。和我一起跑吧!

我跑不动了,也好拉我一把!

winds of change

26 06 2007

Change is the only constant in life

i feel beli old actualli…general state of mind

juz feel tat i m at the stage when i m ready for change.  mayb when i get older, i will b more resistant to change.

still can chiong.  not content to juz pass time and being ’stuck’ if passion has ’sizzled’ out

Our 收获

26 06 2007

HQ and moi showing off our purchases from KLCC

we spent a long time at ‘Girls’ coz the things were so pretty and pink!

tat’s where i got the hairband and necklace for QQ.  生女儿真好!

pencil sharpener

26 06 2007

absolutely vital when u haf skool going kiddos.

and dun bother wif cheap and cutesy tiny ones when u haf to go thru some 36 colour pencils and dozens of pencils.

i got a blister on my finger from pencil sharpening within the first mth of skool.

and mind u, i was oredi using a huge elephant shaped pencil sharpener from japan.

den i got an electric one.  unfortunately it died on mi after a few mths of heavy duty use.  plus, it needed 4 AA batteries to work and used up the juice so fast tat i was always buying batteries.  and becoz it’s electric, i m paranoid abt the kiddos sticking their little fingers in !

finalli, i got a manual KCK (K-400)  model and tis little baby works the best so far!

juz a few quick turns to get the job and the lead is super sharp.

onli 1 major drawback abt it.
it’s a little tricky to remove broken lead.

solution lies in a toothpick or something pointed tat u poke ard till the broken lead comes loose.

and i found tis thread abt pencil sharpening among teachers.

Donut balls

25 06 2007

i found an old fashioned confectionery near lavendar on fri evening and got some donut balls on a stick for the kiddos.

i showed YY the donut balls thru the plastic bag and asked him to guess wat i bought.

he saw the shape and went ‘fishballs’.  i told him it’s donuts and he looked beli bewildered.  i couldn’t understand y he didn’t noe it’s donut balls even after i took them out and showed him.

shupin reminded mi tat the kiddos and herself haf NBR seen donut balls on a stick!

how could it be?  i finally realised tat though some places sell donut balls, the balls are usually loose and not on a stick.

something so simple and commonplace to us has become a thing of the past.

吵架的鹦鹉

25 06 2007

if there’s anything tat QQ picked up from skool, it’s her eng language skills.

and her forte lies in quarelling.  whenever YY and QQ gets into a verbal fight, QQ is able to drive YY nuts.

a typical fight will start wif YY going ‘My sister is XXXX’ followed by QQ who will say ‘My brother is XXXX’

QQ doesn’t noe the word XXXX till she heards YY using it.  And by minicking him, she is able to rebuke YY every time.

i came up wif an excellent and effective way for them to end every fight in laughter.

i explained to YY tat QQ is juz ‘parroting’ everything he says so we should beat her at her own game.

instead of using negative words and increasing QQ’s vocab of ‘quarrelling’ words, YY will say things tat he wants to hear from QQ.

now the fight goes :

YY : You’re so handsome!
QQ : You’re so handsome!

YY : You’re so clever!
QQ : You’re so clever!

YY : I love u!
QQ : I love u!

imagine the above lines shouted angrily bet the kiddos.  the sight is simply hilarious and nbr fails to get YY roaring wif laughter after a few exchanges.  and QQ is sure to end up laffing along wif her ‘gor gor’ though she doesn’t noe the joke is on her.

YY’s spelling 26th June-learnt!

23 06 2007

luckily i had the foresight tat we will forget all abt his spelling after the long june hols so i posted the spelling words

YY spent half an hour stuck at the first word ‘climbing’…he doesn’t seem to haf got into the mood to stardee at all and kept fidgeting.

but after skipping to all the other ‘easier’ words in the list, he finished learning everything in less den 15 mins and got them all rite when i tested him.

wow!  sure hope he can keep tis up and scored his first full marks for spelling on tue.  the highest he got tis yr is 8 out of 10.

Joy Cowley

23 06 2007

was searching for the word ‘jigaree’ wif YY and found the link to Joy Cowley.

YY exclaimed tat he has been reading lotsa books by tis author so we scrolled thru all the titles and found all the titles tat YY found familiar eg. Mrs Wishy-Washy, Dan, the flying man, The Hungry Giant, To Town etc.

and while reading trace’s posting abt the LKF carnival, discovered tat YY has nbr heard of The Wizard of Oz.  off to the library we are heading tis sat afternoon.

感动-Part 2

23 06 2007

a topic tat i discussed wif a few groups of frens and i thot how relevant it is to the concept of someone ’unforgetable’ in our lives.

感动 is one-sided and is often something so trivial tat the party tat aroused such emotions may not even b aware of how long lasting their ‘effects’ r.

wat is 感动?

it is when someone, thru action or speech, touches ur heart

Weird Causes of Obesity

23 06 2007

Your mom: Studies show that the older your mom was when she gave birth, the more likely you are to be fat.

The temperature: Air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter may make you less cranky, but they may also make you fatter. If you’re in a cool room in winter, for example, your body has to do more metabolic work to get your temperature up to normal. Nothing replaces a good old-fashioned workout for calorie burning, but lowering your thermostat setting a bit in winter and tipping it a smidge higher in summer may boost your baseline calorie burn.

Your mate: Studies show that heavy people tend to choose heavy mates and in turn produce even heavier children. So be a couple that loses pounds together.

Sad and Old: It Ain’t So

23 06 2007

We may lose our hair, not hear as well, and get more wrinkles — but we’ll have big smiles on our faces.

It turns out that growing older isn’t such a drag. Time and time again, 70-year-olds report higher levels of happiness than 30-year-olds. Are you happy?

Better with Age
Why might older adults be happier? It could be that the kind of maturity that can only come with age allows people to keep an emotional even keel. Or that with advancing years, we simply become more skilled at coping with our circumstances — even those that are life changing. Whatever the reason, it’s good news for our health.

Top 5 Ways to Spice Up Your Health

23 06 2007

cinnamon!  my fav spice tops the list   cinnamon and apple is the ultimate combi

Spices. Wars have been fought over them. Great explorers have sailed in pursuit of them. And gifting history was made by three wise men bearing them. Turns out that the ancients were on to something. Research is now showing that five spices we’ve long savored just for their flavor are also nutritional powerhouses. Toss these overachievers into your salad or sauce and get a whopping dose of disease-preventing antioxidants along with a flavorful punch.

1. Cinnamon This natural germ-fighter also helps lower blood sugar, triglyceride, and cholesterol levels — ¼ teaspoon a day is a healthy goal. Sprinkle a little of the powder on freshly ground coffee beans when making your morning java, or try the irresistible Cinnamon Baked Apples for a low-cal dessert.

2. Thyme It makes it into grilled poultry, fish, and meat marinades by virtue of its minty, lemony flavor; it makes it onto the RealAge list of healthy herbs by virtue of its anti-cancer potency. It’s also long been used as an antiseptic — yep, that could be thyme oil in your mouthwash. If you’ve got a fresh bunch, mince some into your vinaigrette. Yum.

3. Cumin Concealed in your humble chili powder is one of the world’s most popular spices (it’s a key ingredient in Indian curries too) and another anti-cancer soldier. Go exotic and add cumin to rice and grain salads and marinades, or try this heart-healthy Ultimate Beef Chili made with chunks of fat-trimmed meat.

4. Oregano Thank our GIs for bringing oregano home from Italy after WWII. A food world superpower, leaves of the herb boast 42 times more antioxidants than apples. Wow. Use oregano to add a delicate flavor to salad dressings, garlic bread, and omelets, as well as your favorite pastas.

5. Turmeric Called the “Queen of the Kitchen” by Indian cooks, turmeric (and its active ingredient, curcumin) has earned its crown. Studies show promise in fighting cystic fibrosis, colon cancer, arthritis, and even Alzheimer’s — is there anything this golden gal can’t do? For an earthy flavor and yellow coloring, add a pinch of turmeric to rice, stew, or lentils — hey, it might even help you remember where you left your keys last night.

Heartbreak Management (2)

20 06 2007

moving on after the heartache…u owe ur loved ones at least tat.

———————————————————————————————

Often after a failed relationship, our thoughts are in turmoil. It’s not uncommon to have mixed feelings and second thoughts about the breakup. And though we might feel that we should articulate these feelings to our ex, that’s the last thing you’d want to do. Calling your ex after a breakup only complicates matters, so if you really can’t keep it inside, talk to a friend or relative instead.

An idle mind is the devil’s workshop, and after a breakup, your brain is particularly susceptible to all sorts of wandering thoughts. So keep yourself busy? be in the company of others as much as you can, and if you can’t help being alone, make sure you have plenty of positive reading material or DVD comedies at hand. Just don’t sit around by yourself and let your mind wander.

People often make the mistake of over-analysing the situation after a breakup, agonizing over the endless possibilities why things went wrong. But don’t second-guess yourself. No amount of analysis will make things clearer. In fact, it just muddies the water. Just trust your gut feeling. If a relationship is wrong, it will feel wrong and you will know.

Don’t allow yourself to be tempted to see your ex “one last time”. All this does is hold you back. It prolongs the agony and adds to the confusion. In the long run, the easiest thing on your spirit and your heart is to make a clean break.

It takes two to make a relationship work. That’s why you should never blame yourself or the other party for the demise of the relationship. No matter how indisputable one party’s guilt may seem, the other party must take responsibility for his or her part in the situation.

Sadness is a funny thing. Though nobody would honestly claim to enjoy being sad, we can become rather attached to it. It can become an uneasy ally, a shroud that both protects and entraps us. It’s our excuse for not making things better. It’s an expression of our hurt. And we often think that by remaining sad, we somehow make the other party feel bad. Which is not true of course, but oh, how we love imagining that it is!

When we are bitter and resentful, we hurt no one but ourselves. If you feel your ex really hurt you, then your best revenge is to show them how good your life can be without them. Remember, no one is worth hurting yourself over, especially not someone who has let you down in some way. Be good to yourself and you’ll find that there is indeed much life and love after a breakup.

Heartbreak Management (1)

19 06 2007

谈何容易, 但绝对是金玉良言。

拿得起更要放得下。

——————————————————————————————

In the aftermath of a breakup, one of the biggest mis-assumptions we make is that the road has ended for us, well, romantically anyway. We feel that we’ve lost the one and only love of our lives and that no one else will make us feel the way we did with this person.

Certainly at this point, we’re governed more by our hearts than our heads, and the products of our hearts – our emotions – can sometimes grossly miss the mark. All the same, it’s completely understandable to feel that you will never find romantic fulfillment again.

This makes us feel and do certain things – we start replaying the good times in our heads, conveniently leaving out the bad memories; we start to imagine that if they only knew we still missed them so badly, they would come back and give it another shot; you try all sorts of ways to tempt them into talking or meeting up, thinking that this will rekindle old flames and happily lead to a lifetime of bliss together.

What this usually does though, is make it harder and harder for you, or both of you, to get over the relationship. The whole thing then becomes a protracted tug-of-war of “not-knowing-when-or-who-or-what-to-believe”, also known as sleepless nights wondering “what if” or what it “could’ve been”.

Either that or the phone call or meeting turns ugly, what you get is the opposite of what you expected, and now the relationship is well and truly dead. And smelling like it too, since it wasn’t allowed to stay buried. In some cases, what was simply romantic incompatibility turns into hatred and enmity. Now, not only have you lost a partner, you’ve gained an enemy.

When we don’t allow a failed relationship to rest, we usually complicate it further by adding lies, using guilt, tears, threats, memories or shared experiences like friends or businesses. We may even use sex to get the other person back. It usually doesn’t work and only serves to make you feel silly and humiliated, but such tactics are only natural? neither of you are thinking clearly.

After a breakup, the best thing to do (though most of us will find it easier squeezing blood from a rock) is to cut off all contact – no “let’s be friends” pledges because it almost always backfires, no “it’s ok to go out as a bigger group”, no emails, no letters, no little “goodwill” presents, no “innocent” visits to the ex’s family. We always think so highly of our ability to be gracious and mature following a breakup but we almost always end up acting and feeling childish and shameful.

Bomb blast at Puduraya

19 06 2007

mum was asking if we were still in KL when the bomb went off.

————————————————————————————-

There was a loud bang and then sounds of a little girl screaming with her hair on fire.
That was the scene that greeted a witness to a bomb explosion that injured a Johor-bound 11-year-old girl and her aunt at Puduraya bus station on Friday.
In the 9.10pm incident, Atykah Nadiah Zamzar, her uncle and aunt were waiting at Platform 7 for a trip to Kota Tinggi.
It is learnt that they were sitting there when the girl touched the bomb under the seat before it exploded.

Not Putting Up With It Anymore

18 06 2007

cheers to everyone who has the courage to walk out of a bad movie and other situations in life.

life is too short to spend being unhappy/not enjoying every moment.

——————————————————————————————

Most of us have had this experience – we go to a movie, are absolutely baffled and appalled by how bad it is, yet continue watching it until it’s over. I know, it’s because we didn’t want to judge the film prematurely – even though more than halfway through it was still jaw-droppingly awful, we were still hoping to be surprised, right? We just wanted some validation, no matter how small, that the movie wasn’t a complete waste of our money and time, but most of the time, we’re disappointed.

It’s not too different with the other aspects of our lives; as a person, a father, a wife, a son, a sister, a partner, a colleague or neighbour, what are you putting up with? What kinds of stress are you allowing yourself to take on a regular basis even though you could just stand up and walk away?

Now I’m not knocking the power of perseverance; sticking with a worthy task that’s showing improvement, no matter how slow, is admirable. What I’m talking about is putting up with something or someone that’s taking a toll on your happiness and success while showing no sign of positive impact.

What are the bad movies in your life that you’re not standing up and leaving?

Most of us adopt a passive approach to life – something we don’t agree with happens again and again and, ah? we let it pass, we close one eye. I don’t mean that we should be intolerant of others; I’m referring to the more personal aspects of our lives; matters that affect us directly – things like our jobs and our relationships, the abuse or unjust treatment that we take day after day because we think that we should accept the results of certain choices we’ve made.

But just because we’ve made this choice, does that mean we should accept how it’s turned out? Just because we’ve invested money or time or love, does that mean we have to stick with it regardless of how unhappy it’s making us?

Sure, most of us may complain about it, throw the odd tantrum or two, but very few will actually get up and insist on change or leave. Only you will know when the abuse has to stop. Only you will know when a situation has reached a point where the bad feelings will not go away unless something or someone changes or leaves. The sad fact is that most people do nothing, and the bad feelings continue to plague their lives.

When we’re in the midst of an irredeemable film, there’s often nothing we can do except walk out of the cinema. But very often, when it comes to other issues in our lives – our jobs, our relatives, our friends, or the prejudice we face – we can demand that things change to reflect our rights. We can at the very least make ourselves heard.

Decide for yourself when you’re not going to put up with it anymore.

Unreciprocated Love

18 06 2007

i can’t believe anyone who can’t love themselves can love others.

——————————————————————————————

If you love someone who doesn’t love you in return, be gentle with yourself. There is nothing wrong with you. You are not undesirable. The other person is judging you based on his or her own limited perceptions, experiences and values, and you should never use that as a benchmark. What matters is how you see yourself.

Conversely, if someone loves you but you don’t love him or her, do not take advantage. Some of us may think “It’s just harmless fun” or “as long as I don’t make a verbal commitment, it should be alright”. If someone loves you or thinks he or she loves you, the feeling will probably grow more intense with time. If you accept their affection without making it clear that you will never be on the same level romantically, then you’re only encouraging their feelings for you. Love is a gift, and if you know you can’t accept it, refuse it gently.

If your partner chooses to leave a relationship that seems perfectly fine to you, do not assign blame. If your partner is resolute and has made it clear that it’s not going to work out, do not push. Do not try to look for reasons. In such cases, it’s probably better to let it go because pushing is likely to hurt you even more. You’ll drive yourself insane wondering “why?”

More importantly, do not think less of yourself. It’s usually the blameless party who bears the torment of love’s departure. You did nothing wrong and there was nothing you could’ve done to prevent the passage of love. It passes us like a leaf on the breeze which may or may not choose to settle. The real reason is not something you can know.
Love can sometimes move in mysterious paths and if you’re unable to let love go its way, you’ll only end up like the wasp which dies of exhaustion while trying to break out through a closed window.

Someone once said that many lovers get it wrong by seeing their hearts as empty places that will be filled by love. They then begin to look at love as something that flows to them rather than from them. They forget that the secret of love is that it is a gift, and that it can be made to grow only by giving it away.

The world is a complex and immense place, more so than you might imagine. In the wake of a failed relationship, human beings have the tendency to make the world collapse into a little box, in which no or few opportunities exist. They draw the curtains when they really should be letting the light in.

But if you keep your heart open and learn to give love rather than expect it to come to you, love will happen for you again.

Grisly find in rubbish

13 06 2007

Newborn baby’s body dumped in WA

The body of a newborn baby has been found dumped in household rubbish at a Perth waste treatment facility.

Three babies have been found dumped in Australia over the past month, the other two were left alive outside a hospital and church.

i read tis beli disturbing piece of news.  of all the places, ppl are dumping babies in aussie.  i will nbr understand how anyone can bear to do tis to their own.

Meguiar

13 06 2007

This luxurious, pH balanced one-step treatment safely cleans and protects fine leather without using harmful or harsh solvents. Mild cleaners provide a safe cleaning action without stripping nutrients or protection. Special oils moisturize and condition leather so it remains rich and supple without adding artificial slickness.

washed the car on sun nite and applied armorall and leathercare.

i wana mention meguiar gold class leather condition and cleaner coz the bottle cracked along the sides.  in trying to save the contents, i tried prying open the bottle from the side and slashed my finger as a result….ouch!

i suppose wif the amt of leather conditioner my hands were covered wif in this messy process, my ‘human leather skin’ has become more supple.

in the end, the remaining contents were transferred into an empty bottle of Pears Shampoo.  i can’t imagine the faces of any fellow carowners in the carpark when they see mi using ’shampoo’ on the car seats…haha!

Big day over

11 06 2007

fri went reli reli well.

YP, marie et moi were the onli 3 on full day shift from concourse to hitachi.

we started our walkabout at 10am and ended at 6pm wif hardly any time for lunch as we had the TKD demo from Assisi’s TKD warriors.  but our hard work paid off.

the chips (twisties, doritos, lay’s)  sold out and we even managed to mit our target for the movie vouchers and tat is so encouraging.  coz we had feedback before the event tat the movie vouchers may b too exp coz ppl wouldn’t b willing to pay more den $9.50 for tickets even if the proceeds were going to charity.

unfortunateli, the tickets do not come free and we decided to press on wif the pricing we haf set in order to raise the funds we need.

the Assisi kids r so, so adorable and the TKD demo totally enjoyable!  we are reli privileged to haf caught them in action.

can’t wait to noe the actual amt raised though i m pretty sure we did well and we did our best.  even though it’s for charity but some of us are more shy and we even had boardmen, our dear male colleagues wearing the price menu.

QQ missing YY

5 06 2007

QQ was at mac and ordering happy meal when the counter guy asked her which toy she wanted.  though she can speak some english sentences, her english was hardly conversational.  she wished tat her gor gor was wif her.

after tabao-ing the meal home, while she was eating her fries, she commented tat gor gor likes to eat fries.

i dialed her ah ma’s place for her and she told her gor gor she bought 汉堡包.  the 2 kiddos actualli chatted for a while on the fone.

all signs point to the fact tat QQ is missing her gor gor.

Good food in HK

5 06 2007

random stall across the road from 蘭芳園 at soho area (Central MTR)

蘭芳園 serves the best 絲襪奶茶 in HK!  tis is a muz try!also sells excellent 葱油鸡排撈丁 (干撈出前一丁 with chicken chop)tis is their 猪扒包…so, so onli

another excellent place tat kim brought us to. the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and i was initially shocked tat we r going to a restaurant for afternoon tea.
the name is  太平舘 in Grandsville (Tsim Tsai Tsui MTR).

it’s a very old restaurant and looks rather posh but prices were very reasonable, like 茶餐廳 with special prices for afternoon tea.

their speciality is  牛河 ie. stirred fried beef hor-fun, this is highly recommended !  smells heavenly!

another speciality is 瑞士汁鸡翼意粉 ie. sweet sauce chicken wings with spaghetti。kim told us the story behind the chinese name of swiss sauce.

back in the old days, the waiters tried telling the ang moh tat the chicken wings haf a ‘Sweet’ sauce but it was misunderstood tat the sauce is ‘Swiss’ thus the name stuck.

and their speciality dessert is this souffle…wah!  the portion is huge!  dun attempt tis on ur own.

we were staying at happy valley and juz dwn the street was tis place famous for egg tarts and 波羅包

see the old fashioned boxes!  reminds mi of chin mee chin…hehe

i went to the library to retn my overdue ‘蛋糕睡觉了’  and decided to pick up some books to read.

i was in luck and found 3 YISHU titles.  i can’t recall the last time i had such luck…muz b yrs and yrs back.  good job, NLB!  in replenishing her titles.

The Alchemist

2 06 2007

Once upon a time, there lived an aspiring alchemist who refused to get a job, dreaming of a way to turn base elements into gold. His exasperated young wife struggled to put food on the table but he was unwavering in his quest.
The wife finally turned to her wise father for help and he asked to see his son-in-law. The young man expected to be reprimanded, but to his surprise, the father-in-law confided in him, “I, too, was an alchemist when I was younger! From what you tell me, I can tell that you are surely on the verge of a breakthrough. But you need one more ingredient to succeed, and I have only recently discovered this secret. Unfortunately, it requires much work and I am too old to undertake the task.”
“I can do it, dear father!” the young man volunteered.
The old man then leaned over and whispered, “The ingredient you need is the silver powder that grows on banana leaves. This powder becomes magic when you plant the bananas yourself, and cast spells on it. But we need at least two pounds of the dust for it to work. And that would take hundreds of banana plants and many years of labour.”
Overcome by the prospect of alchemic success, the young man promised to undertake the project.
For the next few years, the young man cultivated his banana plants lovingly and chanted the spells faithfully. His harvest grew and grew as he painstakingly collected the silver powder from the banana leaves. Finally, the young man accumulated two pounds of the magic dust and rushed to his father-in-law’s house.
“Wonderful!” the old man rejoiced. “Now I can show you how to turn base elements into gold! But first you must bring your wife here. We need her help.”
The young man was puzzled, but obeyed. When she appeared, the old man asked his daughter, “While your husband was collecting the banana powder, what did you do with the fruits?”
“Why I sold them,” the daughter said.
“Did you save any money?” the father asked.
“Yes,” she replied.
“May I see it?” the old man asked. So his daughter hurried home and returned with several bags. The old man grabbed a handful of the magic dust, opened one bag and threw the powder in. When the young man looked into the bag, he saw that it was full of gold coins!
“See,” the old man turned to his son-in-law, “you have changed base elements into gold!”
