T68, T610, K610i

31 10 2006

disclaimer to my remark below abt ann & boon’s comments. they were referring to w800i but becoz the sony ericsson website says K610i can also upload fotos direct to blogger, i assume both fones haf the same functionality.

anyway, i tried to send fotos to mobile blog and failed coz tat’s onli supported within US….duh…wat a disappointment. if we haf tis feature, it would b a HUGE time saver for mi to blog on the go coz it’s such a pain to upload picts to blogger.

anyone hoo noes mi will noe tat i m anti-nokia.

i haf nbr owned a nokia fone and haf nbr liked any nokia design, period.

and i HATE samsung fones, after the horrible experience wif the e800c. any fone tat cannot serve its basic function of letting u stay connected thru fone calls are simply redundant and its creator ought to b shot.

i haf used motorola and sony ericsson fones most of the time and i like both brands. in fact, my first fone was from ericsson, the 628, i tink.

over the wkend, bro picked up 2 sony ericsson k610i for free using his bird-day vouchers from starhub.

i don’t haf much complaints abt my Razr except sometimes i wish the camera is slightly better.

anyway, after hearing wat ah boon and ann said abt being able to upload fotos direct to my blog, i decided to test the fone. (anyway, i wanted to tell ann tat i didn’t manage to upload any fotos, u sure it works in sg?)

quite happy wif the fone’s camera though i tink my camera can still do a better job.

wat i was beli touched abt was the fact tat i rem how to turn on silent and lock the keys. the fond memories of myT68 ( my fav fone todate!! ) and T610 is coming back to mi….but my messaging is still painfully slow. tink i’ll take a while to get used to it.

Big Foot, Little Foot

30 10 2006

these fotos took mi like forever to load…argh…and wif my flu, i feel bad abt exceeding my bedtime yet again.

had 6 panadol flu tablets since last nite & tat helped wif the sneezing and runny nose for tdy coz i was out for meetings all day.

went to get my super strength contac NT flu medication.

the drowsy kind works best but i didn’t get knocked out…time i should still go to bed.

the little ones are having so much fun on the sofa

Dinner wif Von & Yen Nee

30 10 2006

we gers met up last thurs for dinner.

been such a long while since we last caught up.

so hard to arrange outings and we’re planning mths ahead of schedule.

went to surf n turf at suntec…food was alrite but i dun even wana tok abt the service.

it’s not as though the service was bad or the staff was rude but clearly they’re were horribly inexperienced. i always feel tat restaurant staff should b familiar enuff wif the menu to answer any questions.

we had 3 set dinners and the waiter asked if von wanted baked potato or chips. since he didn’t asked ah nee & moi, we assumed tat our orders didn’t come wif chips. to our surprise, our sets were served wif chips too.

sigh, i requested tat he changed ours to baked potatoes too.

post dinner, it was off to secret recipe for some nice cheesecakes and drinks.

tat’s lychee frosties in the background.

call mi boring but i had my fav vanilla milkshake…. : )

and the new york cheese is fabulous!

Livia, you’re a Hot Tamale!

21 10 2006

Not everyone can get away with the sassy kitten routine you’ve perfected.

First of all, your innate friendliness and charm make you a hit in the romance department.

Throw in a dash of your sensual side and watch the temperature rise. Good for you!

It’s about time women recognized their sexual potency and used it to their advantage.

It’s a beautiful thing, as long as you’re doing it because you want to, and not because you’re looking for reassurance.

Trust us — you’re desirable.

With this kind of lifestyle, it’s a given that you tend to keep your guard up.

Maybe you don’t reveal too much about yourself because you’re afraid of becoming too vulnerable.

Sure, it’s great to have a good time, and you seem to be enjoying yourself.

Just know that sooner or later you’ll want to open that heart of gold to someone who’s really worth the trouble.

One Minute More

18 10 2006

Mommy, can you give me a juice box? Please… Pretty please?”
“In just a minute.”

“Mum, my shirt’s wrinkled. Mind ironing it real quick?”
“I don’t have a minute!”

“Where’s dinner?”
“Can you give me one &#%@!$ minute?”

Sound familiar?

Apparently, minutes are a hot commodity in your house.

And you haven’t got one to spare.

But seriously, we all know that in the 1,440 minutes each day, you have one or two of them at your disposal.

Today, we’re asking for only 60 — maybe 120 — seconds of your time to try the one-minute exercise craze.

Okay, so we might’ve fibbed a little on the “six-pack abs in 60 seconds or less!” implied offer.

The idea behind super-short exercises is to encourage you to do them a little here, a little there, so that throughout any given day, you’ll do what amounts to a solid 20-minute workout.
Still excited?

Follow the leader

If you love the idea of aerobic tapes but hate the monotony of doing the same workout over and over again after you’ve mastered the routine, then the 1 Minute Workout DVD is a great starting place.

You still get to have a virtual personal trainer; you still get to set up a gym in your living room; you still get to sweat and screw up with no one watching or judging; and you still get to push pause to hit the bathroom.

The only difference is that this video uses the shuffle feature of your DVD player to create a new, customized experience every time you press play.

Lead on

If you prefer being the one shuffling your own routine, try out these two-minute workout ideas.

They offer 11 ways to strengthen those biceps, triceps, quads and ever-growing glutes, all while watching TV, sitting in front of the computer or driving.

The One-Minute Challenge

Ready for more? You don’t need spandex or sports bras for these 35 one-minute weight-loss secrets.

When you aren’t working out, you can still work toward a better bod by dipping your bread in olive oil instead of butter, chewing gum, or using the cordless phone and walking while gabbing with friends.

Great Western food

18 10 2006

we were planning on having yummy beancurd @ TPY but unfortunately, the shop has closed down.

but the place for famous salmon steak @ blk 8 TPY didn’t disappoint mi.

we ordered a mixed grill, fried rice and pork chop to share and all items were great!

especially the pork chop, chicken & mutton from the mixed grill.
all 3 meats were tender & juicy.

Desserts Galore

17 10 2006

there’s been lotsa dessert shops opening in sg lately.

i ran out of yarn for my shawl…i noe! so lame for seasoned crocheter…sigh!
so i went to golden dragon to get more yarn. anyway, they dun haf anything tat’s an exact match so i ended up getting another colour to go wif the portion i finished.

saw tis newly opened dessert stall juz round the corner from golden dragon and decided to haf some nourishing desserts.

my almond is beli thick but the taste is not heavy enuff to match the consistency of the paste. it’s hard to find places tat serve decent almond paste

mum had yam paste tat was extremely watery BUT really tasty.

wat an irony! anyway, tis dessert stall has branches in raffles place too.

17 10 2006

YY has turned little weather reporter.

he called mi yest saying ‘Emergency! Emergency!’ PSI 113′

later in the day, he called again to report PSI 130.

and he gets the latest PSI from Kids Central coz it’s flashed in the top left hand corner of the TV constantly.

Right : Pict taken at 1.58pm from overhead bridge towards concourse. Ritz Carlton can be seen vaguely in the distance between the columns with the naked eye. But my phone can’t capture it at all.

Short Steps to a Long Life

17 10 2006

How can you improve your cholesterol and your lung function in a mere 11 minutes?
Just say, “I’ll take the stairs.”

We’re not talking Empire State Building stairs, either.

If you climb a couple flights of stairs for just 2 minutes, five or six times a day, you’ll be covered.

Women in a study who did just that increased their cardiorespiratory fitness by 17 percent and reduced their “bad” LDL cholesterol by 8 percent in just 8 weeks.

That means a younger RealAge and a longer life, so start climbing. Once it’s a habit, you’ll hardly notice the effort.

Climbing stairs for about 11 minutes a day, spread out over five or six 2-minute sessions throughout the day, increases cardiorespiratory fitness, a measure of how well your heart and lungs deliver oxygen and energy to your body during physical exertion.

And improved fitness lowers mortality risk.

Stair climbing forces you to work against gravity, so it’s more strenuous than walking.

In fact, the fitness gains achieved by the stair-climbing women in the study were equivalent to those experienced by previously sedentary people who embarked on a 36-minutes-a-day walking program for 24 weeks. Wow!

Of course, getting 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week should still be your main goal.

But 10 or 15 cumulative minutes of stair climbing can count toward that goal. Going up?

校歌当唱到千秋万代

16 10 2006

toking to an old alumnus from AHS staying in US and graduated since 1968.

it’s such a warm feeling knowing tat others feel as strongly as we do abt the sch song change.
and tis article prompted him to take action by contacting the teachers in AHS to find out the facts too.

校歌当唱到千秋万代 is the subject of an article he wrote after seeing BH’s article.

our primary objective of tat article is to alert more alumnus to the change in sch song and it’s so amazing who we managed to reach out to.

the feelings we haf for AHS is not something tat outsiders ie. non alumnus, can understand.

changing the sch song has hurt our feelings. and unless tis whole saga reaches a satisfactory conclusion, i no longer feel the kinda attachment i haf for the sch. i juz don’t see the point anymore. i noe i shouldn’t forsake the sch but frankly if the board tinks tat changing the sch song is not a big deal to the alumnus, they r wrong.

and as wif all actions, they will haf to deal wif the repercussions of the deed.

there’re ppl hoo r indifferent to the change but the only way for mi to be indifferent, is NOT to feel any attachment to the sch.

if the aim of changing the sch song is to alienate the alumnus from the sch, it has certainly done its job. but tis event has oso brought the alumnus closer as we make our unhappiness known to the sch and reunite to protect our heritage.

Livia, you’re driven by getting from here to there

15 10 2006

You’re all about the substance of relationships, not the flash and panache.
You’re focused on spending time with people and
on doing the things you want to do more than the way in which you do it.
Sometimes you have to deal with limited resources,
but that doesn’t mean your life can’t be exciting and rich.
Just the opposite.
You’re probably a champion for the underdog, too.
Where most people see flaws, you see the character that brings people, and even cars, to life.
So what’s the perfect car for your personality?
Anything with a history that can get you, well, from here to there, in comfort.

Haze

15 10 2006

the haze situation was back yest.

looks like a repeat of last sat’s PSI of 150. at 10pm, the PSI was at 99. it went past 100 later in the nite.

tdy it seems slightly better.
i get the feeling we’re entirely at the mercy of the winds.

the news mentioned sg will b sending help for the fires.

while i applaud tat, i can’t help tinking y only now?

how long have the fires been raging?? and the PSI went past 100 to unhealthy levels more den a wk back.

Miami Vice V.S. Banquet

15 10 2006

y the title?

well, these r the 2 shows tat i watched most recently and both featured famous chinese actresses.

mi not really movie fan, u c. too lazi to organise unless got ppl jio

bet banquet and miami, i so much more prefer miami.

tink gong li is still so pretty and acting much better den zhang ziyi. and the action is a lot more sizzling.

the story of banquet reli made mi wonder how zhang ziyi could haf made 3 men so smitten.

and banquet was so boring. i like daniel wu but i so can’t stand him in the show, so soft…argh!

plus i read the synopsis b4 watching so i was waiting for zhang ziyi to die, throughout the show…haha

to b honest, the banquet looked a lot more artistic BUT i tink they tipped the scales too much into trying to make an artistic and visually spectacular show tat the story seems inadequate.

next show i wana watch….hehe….Rob-B-Hood

Save Yourself from the Latte Effect

15 10 2006

i juz tink the piggy bank is so cute!

If you haven’t heard of the Latte Effect, you probably haven’t met with your financial adviser since, oh, the late ’80s.

If you have heard of it, you probably are wondering why it would ever fall under the Daily Indulgence demarcation.

It’s true: The Latte Effect is what happens when you give up a small daily, uh, indulgence and save the money instead, thereby resulting in huge compounded-interest windfalls.

If you gave up that $3 cup of coffee, you could save $90 every month.

If invested properly, those savings could grow to $18,000 in 10 years, $206,000 in 30 years and $1.6 million in 50 years — give or take, depending on whether you can go without your morning jolt for that long.

Just imagine the jackpot if you forgo a $7-per-day cigarette habit. Do $3.6 million and the health to enjoy it sound doable?

So, don’t see this particular email as the anti-indulgence.

Look at it as a financial indulgence where you replace one minor treat today with a major one down the road.

According to Smart Money magazine, experts across the nation claim that the Latte Effect is the easiest and most recommended way to get out of debt; increase savings for a big purchase, such as a house or a vacation; and plan for early retirement.

Side note: Environmentalists are supporting the Latte Effect too.

Those who prefer a pit stop at Starbucks or other gourmet coffee shops add so much mileage to the morning commute that they’re actually increasing traffic congestion, air pollution and gas consumption.

If that doesn’t put you off your breakfast beverage…

Samsoon marathon

Beat stress, drink tea

13 10 2006

Regular cups of tea can help speed recovery from stress, researchers from University College London (UCL) said on Wednesday.

Men who drank black tea four times a day for six weeks were found to have lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than a control group who drank a fake tea substitute, the researchers said in a study published in the journal Psychopharmacology.

The tea drinkers also reported a greater feeling of relaxation after performing tasks designed to raise stress levels.

Andrew Steptoe, of UCL’s department of Epidemiology and Public Health, and one of the report’s authors, said the findings could have important health implications.

“Slow recovery following acute stress has been associated with a greater risk of chronic illness such as coronary heart disease.

“Although it does not appear to reduce the actual levels of stress we experience, tea does seem to have a greater effect in bringing stress hormone levels back to normal.”

In the study, 75 tea-drinking men were split into two groups, all giving up their normal tea, coffee and caffeinated drinks.
Half were given a fruit-flavored caffeinated tea mixture made up of the usual constituents of a cup of black tea.

The others were given a caffeinated substitute, identical in taste but without the active tea ingredients.

Neither the participants or the researchers knew who was drinking real or false tea.

At the end of six weeks the participants were given a series of tests designed to raise their stress levels, including being given five minutes to prepare and deliver a presentation.
The researchers found that stress levels, blood pressure and heart rate rose similar amounts in both groups.

But 50 minutes after the tasks cortisol levels had fallen an average of 47 percent among the tea drinkers, compared to 27 percent in the fake tea group.

Steptoe said it was not known which ingredients in tea were responsible for the effects found in the study.

Get Fresh with Ginger Tonight

12 10 2006

If you’re cooking in the kitchen with ginger, chances are you’re lowering your risk of cancer.
Every pantry should be stocked with this knobby-looking rootstock spice.

It possesses two cancer-inhibiting compounds, 6-gingerol and 6-paradol, and it lends a warm, pungent twist to dishes, especially fish.

In fact, you may be most familiar with the pickled ginger that is often served with sushi.

For the most benefit, choose fresh over pickled whenever possible; simply peel, shred, and mince the root into foods.

Other spices that may boost your ability to reduce cancer risk include garlic and onion.
And, incidentally, their flavors pair very well with ginger’s in soup and stir-fry dishes.

Garlic is rich in allicin, a compound that has been shown to restrict the growth of certain cancer cells.

Onion is rich in quercetin, a polyphenol that has been shown to inhibit the growth of pancreatic cancer cells.

Little handphone trinklet

12 10 2006

Keeping Pessimism At Bay

12 10 2006

For many of us, an attitude of pessimism is a form of self-defense. If we expect the worst, and it doesn’t happen, we’re spared the worst grief.
And if we expect the worst, and it does happen, well at least we were right.
The idea is that if we don’t get our hopes too high, we won’t have a hard fall.

But there is a more sinister, perhaps truer explanation for pessimism.
Pessimists are in fact cowards who refuse to accept responsibility for their happiness and instead go through life behaving like victims of external circumstances.
Pessimists routinely expect bad things to happen and thus make no effort to make things better. They behave as though the world exerts such a daunting force upon them that resistance is pointless.

This kind of belief conveniently absolves them of any duty or responsibility to improve their own lives.

But a pessimist is condemned to failure, or at least, mediocrity.

Because self-enhancement is neither expected nor believed to be possible by their own means, pessimists are content to accept whatever’s given to them.
Human beings are by nature weak and therefore most of us have a propensity towards pessimism – this is a kind of spiritual laziness that believes that since nothing better is possible, no work needs to be done.

But if you are determined to keep pessimism at bay, here are few habits you can cultivate.

Firstly, adopt an attitude of gratitude.
Pessimists are so blinded by the pains and injustices in life that they cannot see the good.
If you are to transcend the pessimistic mindset, you have to first learn to be thankful for everything that comes your way.
An absolute attitude of gratitude, that is, seeing the good in everything even when it appears bad, is not easy to develop, but it is by no means impossible.
But start with finding at least one thing to be grateful for in every situation.

Next, surround yourself only with optimistic, forward-looking people.

You will feed off one another’s positive energies.

Next, watch your language.

There is no doubt that words influence our consciousness, so consistently strive to use upbeat language, even if it feels strange initially.
You’ll come to realize that you can very often make yourself feel better just by saying the right words.
And foster a habit of creativity. Make repetition a sin.
Try to do things differently. Over-deliver – when asked for one, come up with three. This renews and energises your mind and trains it to be resilient and resourceful.

Users of Certain ThinkPad Notebooks Must Replace Recalled Batteries

11 10 2006

ZY was telling mi tat if i use AC adaptor wif the batt, the batt will spoil easily.

lately she’s been beli difficult abt drinking milk. my mum terms it as her self weaning.

but i tink milk is vital for babies & toddlers.

even YY is still having his milk wif milo twice a day.

Fridge Magnet

10 10 2006

bro found tis fridge magnet from annette IN the fridge last nite.

of course it wasn’t mum nor mi hoo left it there. so YY was the prime suspect.

he was summoned to the scene of the crime and my bro questioned him wat instigated him to commit the act.

he told us tat he wanted to see the temperature drop to zero on the thermometer. well, sounds like a valid reason so he was acquited.

now for the best part, my mum overheard the ‘zero’ and asked excitedly if numbers will appear on the magnet. tink along the lines of 4D….sigh…bro and moi can only shake our heads at tis.

see, i left out the best part when i told marie and karen part 1 of the story. the ultimate is the part abt numbers appearing.

YY’s spelling

10 10 2006

YY got 2 words out of 6 correct for his spelling tdy (spaceship and spot)

i was mildly surprised as he oredi noes all the words last nite.

upon closer examination, he got spoon correct but his ‘oon’ were too close together.

he oso got spy rite but his ‘y’ looks like a ‘S’

i tested him again wif the carrot being stars for full marks.
he proved tat he does noe all the words.

sigh…his results can b quite inconsistent depending on how much effort he is willing to put in.

but i’m beli pleased tat he can spell ’spaceship’

Dinner @ Circuit Road wif Marie!

Nausea-ness

7 10 2006

mi noe mi shouldn’t b up at tis hr but still beli awake and since no work tomolo, can’t bear to sleep.

though i didn’t get my teh-c during lunch tdy, mi tink mi overdose on tea liao.

mi brewed one pot of 沱茶 tat i got from 云南…and had a couple of cups. tink i shouldn’t drink so much tea ‘neat’ at nite.

suspect tat’s wat brought on my feeling of nausea-ness. but den again, mayb tat’s becoz i forgot to eat dinner. mi had some mooncake at ard 5pm in the office tat made mi quite bloated when i got home.

den after the visit to loyang pek kong, mi downed half a 4 yolks mooncake again (mi is yolk fan!). i didn’t feel very hungry so i actualli forgot to eat dinner. where is my supper kaki when i need some makanan? sigh and double sigh.

A+ Grade on Corporate Equality for American Express

7 10 2006

October 02, 2006

American Express scored 100 percent on a recent report card from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation on corporate America’s treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees.

The report card — the Corporate Equality Index — rates Fortune 1000 and other major companies on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on several key indicators, including health and retirement benefits for domestic partners, leave policies for same-sex families, provide diversity training and offer GLBT employee groups. 138 companies received an A+ this year, up tenfold from when the survey began in 2002.

“I am incredibly encouraged and optimistic about the findings in this report,” said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign. “Companies are not only working to improve their scores, they are actively competing to be ranked the most inclusive and fair-minded in their industry.”

In 2002, the first year of the index, only 13 companies earned a perfect rating.
Since then, drastic improvements have been made in the professional lives of GLBT employees — for instance, since last year’s survey, 75 percent more companies established non-discrimination policies for transgender employees and 35 percent more companies extended some form of medical coverage to employees’ domestic partners.

Other companies that received ratings of 100 percent include Apple Computer, AT&T, Bank of America, IBM, Google, Coca-Cola and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Filtering Out the Fluff

7 10 2006
“Marketing fluff” consists of grandiose claims, unsubstantiated by any evidence, that don’t actually say anything. Here’s an example:
Our firm is uniquely qualified to deliver world-class results. We offer best-of-breed products and customer-focused service to produce seamless solutions. Our commitment to partnering with our customers produces innovative yet user friendly applications that produce bottom-line results.

Sound impressive? No, not really. In fact, this paragraph is likely to start the client’s built-in B.S. detector clanging like a fire alarm. Why doesn’t it work? What makes this writing sound weak and phony?
The problem comes from making big claims unsupported by even a sliver of proof. World class results? Says who? Best-of-breed products? By what standards? Seamless? So what does that mean, anyway?
The answer is to substantiate your claims with details. Suppose the sentences were written
as follows:
Our firm has successfully installed advanced imaging systems in more than 500 financial institutions in North America, more than any other firm in the industry.
We offer the latest technology, including digital scanning, and back our systems with a one-year, unconditional guarantee and a service department that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As a result, by choosing us you achieve three important outcomes: First, you are in full compliance with all Federal and state regulations. Second, you eliminate more than 70% of the paper routinely generated in the course of business. And third, your total cost of operations goes down due to reduced information storage costs. On average, our customers saved more than $275,000 annually over the past three years.
Now you’d be a bit more impressed, right? It’s all in the details.

Happy Mid Autumn

forbidden city

5 10 2006

yes, mi stole the pict from SY coz mi is lazi to find another pict…hehe

not bad for local production and i do wana support local talent though i didn’t had high expectations to start wif. yes, i m prejudiced.

to b honest i prefer foreign productions coz i haf tis perception tat the story will b better and the stage setting more ‘professional’

tink kit chan, sebastian tan and hossan leong were beli good.

and it’s rare to find chinese themed musical in english so it was kinda refreshing.

though the stage settings were fairly simple, the changes for the different scenes were reli innovative. i like the way they made use of the 屏风 in so many ways.

but dot raised a good point. after the interval, there was hardly any change made to the stage settings which does make it kinda boring.

i like the songs and the way the songs are relevant when sang by the various leads.
tink tis was a nice touch tat held the story tightly together and highlighted the similarities bet Kate and the dragon lady.

but no, it hasn’t take Les Mis’ #1 place in my heart

i luv tis song!

I hate chain emails

5 10 2006

i noe i sound like a broken record but i absolutely hate chain emails and email hoaxes.

they prey on our ‘good intent’ or our fear of repercussion if we don’t flood our friends’ inboxes wif these email hoaxes.

i juz got the msn hoax email and as usual, i replied to the entire email chain informing them of the hoax.

before u hit the send button, pls ask urself :
“are we juz victims if tis turns out to b a scam or unknowing accomplices by helping to spread the msg??”

thus i do not forward such msgs unless i haf verified the emails or my frens are endorsing the contents of the msg or the original sender.

being a kind soul doesn’t mean u should b passing on msgs tat may not be true without taking any responsibility

in tis instance, i noe the person hoo forwarded the mail has tried to verify the authencity of it and is a victim herself. tis is exactly wat the prankster had in mind.
by giving a link to a credible source, it gains the trust of the recipients who continue the chain wif all good intent.

one quick way to spot a scam is to do a search at anti virus websites eg.
http://antivirus.about.com/od/emailscams/index.htm

they usually haf beli up-to-date info abt scams and hoaxes

Get in the Swim

5 10 2006

Your Daily Indulgence for Wednesday, October 4, 2006

Summer’s over. Time to finally get in the pool — the indoor pool, that is. You may have spent your summer sitting by the water, or splashing around in it, but we bet you didn’t spend much time doing laps.

While you might not see time working out in the pool as pampering, stick with us a moment as we elucidate the benefits for you:

  1. Swimming is an efficient exercise: It tones all the muscles of the body at the same time.
  2. Swimming doesn’t put stress on your joints like running and aerobics do.
  3. The moist pool air will help keep your nose and lungs happy as you head into the season of dry, heated inside air.
  4. Swimming can be Zen-like. As you make your way up and down the lane, concentrate on the sound and rhythm of your breathing. The worries and niggles of everyday life have a magical way of disappearing as you achieve lap after lap.

Find out when adult swim is available at the local pool. Many YMCAs have drop-off programs for kids, so you can go for a dip while your little ones are happily entertained, for a minimal cost. You’ll find the time you spend in the pool to be a surprisingly relaxing indulgence.

Just don’t worry about your thighs. This indoor-swimming idea is about making you calmer and happier. Plus, you look much better in your bathing suit than you think you do.

My frustration wif Sistic website

4 10 2006

sigh…i dun even noe where i should start my story.

internet booking for DBS cardholders started at 9am tis morning and i happily started my ordeal of booking the tickets for Phantom.

the website states tat the opening night is 28 mar 07 yet the show starts on 23rd mar 07…i *scratch* my head when i saw tis but i thot mayb it’s some special arrangement to haf ‘opening’ nite on 28th instead.

and thus i happily tried to book 2 tickets for the 28th.

i was given row AA or BB for Cat 1 !! nah beh! and the seats were at the extreme right side. KNS!!

i tried combi of 2 and 3 seats and guessed wat?! i got 5 seats in row C!! i decided to book tis combi but the stoopid website refused to let mi get past the pyt page. ARGH!

and my prime seats were released by the system when my sessions timed out!

tis continued till lunch time when i managed to get 5 seats together in row C but alas, i still couldn’t complete my transaction !

all tis while, i was complaining to karen how i’m abt to vomit blood from using the website liao.

she called mi abt 3pm and advised mi to make phone booking as wat her fren juz did, coz tickets were going fast.

to b honest, i hate using phone services as i hate being answered by some call routing system (VR). some of the call vectors are rightdwn stoopid and i find it beli hard to concentrate and understand long pre-recorded instructions over the phone.

so i was reli reluctant to use the phone booking.

but it was the BEST thing tat i did tdy!

to my surprise, i got thru after onli a couple of rings and it was answered by a customer service rep straightaway. *score* points liao. i was reli pleasantly surprised.

i explained the probs i was facing, wif booking tickets online.

i was shocked to learnt tat the opening night was wrongly stated on the website. it should b 23rd mar and not 28th mar!! thank goodness my bookings didn’t go thru.

not tat i muz watch on the opening nite but imagine the disappointment i would haf felt if i thot i was booking tickets for opening nite.

i gave the rep a few date options and told him to find mi the best seats.

guess wat!? he did! he recommended Row E (4th row from the front) as we would b straining our necks if we sat in the first couple of rows.

i was even informed tat i could pick up my tickets immediately from any sistic authorised agents instead of having to go to the particular agent i selected if i had booked online! now i feel abit cheated when i die die had to pick up my forbidden city tickets from bedok.

it was a breeze making the booking by phone and i would certainly stick wif tis mode of booking from now on !

Sistic site sux

4 10 2006

mi is having so much problems booking the tickets.

first it tries to gif mi seats in AA row when i book for 5 tickets.

I split the selection to 2 & 3 tickets and managed to get Row C.

den i haf problems making pyt. after being prompted my email address is not the same as their records, the site hangs and hangs and hangs till my tickets are released! nah beh!

now to try booking again…idiot

In Court, Blogs Can Come Back to Dog the Writers

4 10 2006

September 28, 2006

Use as evidence increases

Two months after being rear-ended by a Cambridge city councilor, Boston lawyer Edward A. Prisby — infuriated that the politician might have used his connections to avoid a criminal investigation — turned to his personal blog.

“What a hack,” he wrote in an angry rant about councilor Anthony D. Galluccio, who witnesses said appeared drunk after the accident. “I hope the weight of public opinion crushes his political career.”

That posting on Prizblog came back to haunt him.

Called later as a witness at a hearing to determine whether there was enough evidence to charge the city councilor with drunken driving, Prisby was confronted with his blog entry by Galluccio’s lawyers, who tried to discredit his testimony by arguing that he had a political ax to grind.

“I don’t regret anything I wrote, and nothing I wrote was inaccurate,” Prisby said in an interview. “But I’m willing to concede that, if read in a certain way and with a certain tone, it hurt my credibility in that room that day.”

First came the hard-learned lesson that e-mail can be used as evidence in legal proceedings. Now blogs — basically, continuous public Internet journals — are emerging as fair game in civil disputes, criminal cases, and government investigations, where they are used as evidence with growing frequency.

In March, a Plymouth doctor’s blog was cited as proof that he continued to harass a female patient who had secured restraining orders against him.
In April, a Maine man was sued for allegedly posting defamatory blog entries in which he criticized an advertising agency’s work for the state tourism office.
And in a high-profile national case, Apple Computer filed a lawsuit seeking the identities of people who allegedly leaked information about new Apple products to several bloggers.

“Blogs raise the same danger that e-mail raised a long time ago, which is that the informal aspects of them make people feel less cautious when they’re writing,” said Brigitte M. Duffy, a Boston employment lawyer who represents companies that have searched blogs to investigate allegations made by employees. “But blogs present an even bigger risk because they’re accessible to so many more people and they’re so much more searchable.”

As a result, “there’s an increasing risk that the government, when it’s pursuing a criminal case, is likely to use the Internet as a way of collecting information about defendants,” she said.

Blogs are also being cited in a growing number of civil cases, most commonly claims alleging libel, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Unlike e-mail, which usually remains private unless it is forwarded by a recipient, blogs are public by nature unless privacy settings limit their audience.

They are also easily findable by Internet search engines, in contrast to e-mails, which lawyers generally can obtain only through the discovery process.

And as long as the identity of the author can be proven — not always a given, since 55 percent of bloggers use pseudonyms, according to a July report by the Pew Internet & American Life Project — blogs are typically considered legitimate evidence in court.

With 12 million Americans now writing blogs and 57 million Americans reading them, according to the Pew study, their emergence in lawsuits is likely to grow in prominence, especially as bloggers are increasingly held to the same standards as professional journalists, such as being vulnerable to orders to identify their sources.

“It’s no longer the case that you can say something and it will disappear into the ether, especially if you post it online, and looking for electronic information is absolutely standard practice for lawyers now,” said Boston lawyer Ilan N. Barzilay, who frequently handles cases involving electronic issues and computer technologies.

Lawyers have been bringing up blogs in a diverse array of cases. The Apple lawsuit is pending, but a California state appeals court ruled in May that the company could not subpoena bloggers in an effort to determine who leaked news about Apple products.
Lynn D. Holdsworth, a Plymouth lawyer for the patient allegedly harassed by Dr. John A. Scorza, whose license to practice medicine was suspended in June 2005, said a judge allowed the doctor’s blog entry to be admitted as evidence.
The lawsuit against Maine blogger Lance Dutson was dropped.

By maintaining a blog, “it’s like you have your own private newspaper or TV network where you can put your thoughts out there for the world, and that’s the appeal of it,” Barzilay added. “But your statements can come back and be used against you.”

That was the case for Prisby, 31, a civil litigator who started his blog in March 2005 as an outlet to muse on a range of topics, including football, movies, books, and politics.
In December he and two friends were rear-ended about 2 a.m. by Galluccio in the Financial District.
He assumed that the Boston police would investigate the accident. When there had been no action by February, he wrote what he later described as a “pretty angry entry” on his blog in which he described Galluccio as “really drunk.”
Galluccio later denied the allegations to Channel 5.

His lawyer did not return calls for comment.

“It looks like just another politician with connections,” Prisby wrote Feb. 22 , noting that Galluccio was running for state Senate. He expressed hope that publicity about the accident would “somehow hinder his political career.”

Eventually, however, media reports of the accident surfaced and Boston police launched an investigation, and in April Prisby was a witness at a probable cause hearing.
There, one of Galluccio’s lawyers, David G. Eisenstadt, produced copies of Prizblog entries and asked Prisby if he had been politically motivated to testify against Galluccio.

Prisby — who notes that he doesn’t live in Galluccio’s city and that he, like Galluccio, is a Democrat — said in the interview that he came forward “because I was just a guy who was rear-ended and was mad that the other guy seemed to be getting away with it.”

But Prisby believes his blog entries damaged his reputation as a witness.
Ultimately, a Boston court official ruled that there was insufficient evidence to charge Galluccio. That left Prisby wondering whether his blogging had weakened the case.

“Of course I know my blog will be read by other people — that’s the point,” Prisby said. “But what I didn’t take into account was that a certain tone could be read into my words, and I think when my words were parsed and taken apart and put back together, I came off in the hearing sounding like a mean and vindictive person.”

The experience, which Prisby described as surprising and frightening, prompted him to stop blogging for more than two months. In June, he returned as a more thoughtful blogger, he said.
“I think my writing has become a little bit less frivolous and a little bit more careful, and I feel like I’m coming back to it a little wiser,” he said.

“You want to consider before you post anything whether you’re willing to stand by it. Admittedly, in this particular instance I did something I would not advise a client to do, which is make a statement about an accident or ongoing investigation. You’ve got to be very, very careful about that. And the cardinal rule is that if it seems like a bad idea, it probably is.”

Employers Give Video a Thumbs Down

4 10 2006

September 25, 2006

When shots of offices turn up online, heads can roll

Employees are using technology to make videos of the workplace and post them on well-trafficked Internet sites, creating new legal worries and public relations issues for companies.
In some cases, the videos have also created welcome publicity.

But there is growing concern that company trade secrets or embarrassing employee behavior could be released online to an audience of millions.

• Defense contractor Lockheed Martin found itself the subject of a video on YouTube, a site that lets users post amateur videos. One of its engineers, Michael De Kort, posted a video in which he claimed some patrol boats the company had delivered were defective.

He says he posted the video after getting no response to his concerns from the company.
After the video went up, De Kort, of Monument, Colo., says, he was let go.

He is now seeking to create a new online website where employee whistle-blowers can post similar videos.
Lockheed officials says the company has no policies covering what employees do on their own time, but did say they can’t disclose proprietary information without approval and must use work-provided technology for business reasons.

“Mr. De Kort no longer works for the corporation, and we have thoroughly investigated his allegations on several occasions and found them to be without merit,” spokesman Troy Scully says.

“Some people thought it was sour grapes,” says De Kort, 41, who used a $50 Web camera to record his 10-minute speech where he held up company documents. “As far as getting another job, this is not going to help me. People may admire this, but they’re not going to hire me.”

• On the other hand, at New York-based public relations firm Cubitt Jacobs & Prosek, associate vice president Wilson Cleveland put together a spoof of his company operations and posted it on YouTube.

The video, which was made with full support of supervisors, has turned into a recruiting tool as viewers find it online and then want to learn more about the firm.

But the downsides alarm some employers. Companies such as DaimlerChrysler and Texas Instruments have expanded their Internet policies to ban or limit the use of cellphones that capture images.

“Now, today, everyone can have a James Bond camera. Like blogging before it, online photo and video sites beg for corporations to produce new standards and rules that are clearly communicated to all employees,” says David Carpe, founder of Boston-based consulting firm Clew. “It’s a risk.”

Employees also run a personal risk if they post untrue information that could leave them vulnerable to defamation lawsuits. Videos can also give information to competitors or create a public relations crisis.

The concern is mounting with the growing popularity of image-ready phones, Web cameras and online sites that allow users to post video.

“Technology is changing so rapidly that employers need to be informed and able to monitor the global Internet,” says Sara Begley, an employment lawyer in Philadelphia.

Watching videos using technology is becoming commonplace. Among those who use laptops for downloading or streaming video, 77% watch streaming video, according to a 2006 survey by Menlo Park, Calif.-based Knowledge Networks.

“If you’re using the resources owned by the employer, it’s improper to use that for any personal use,” says Peter Vogel, a Dallas-based employment lawyer. “What’s going to happen is employers are going to say, ‘Are you using any business resources?’ If you are, they will terminate you.”

Rules in Court

3 10 2006

Lawyers should never ask a witness a question if they aren’t prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grand motherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, “Mrs. Jones, do you know me?”

She responded,”Why, yes I do know you, Mr. Williams. I’ve known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me. You lie,you cheat on your wife, you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher.Yes, I know you.”

The Lawyer was stunned!
Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, “Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?”

She again replied, “Why yes, I do. I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster too. He’s lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.”

The defense attorney almost died.

The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench, and in a very quiet voice, said, “If either of you bastards asks her if she knows me, I’ll throw your sorry asses in jail for contempt.”

It’s in the Details

3 10 2006

Just got tis from my daily indulgence for mums newsletter and tis is not juz good advice but exactly wat i need!

after going to the car-wash the last couple of times, i m disappointed tat despite the convenience, the car’s not tat clean.

so i handwashed my car myself last thurs. the armorall wash & wax is a joy to use. onli a capful needed to create a small pail full of foam enuff for the entire car and even the rims. plus the car is so much cleaner.

i applied leather care and armorall to the interior but i haben got ard to vacumning the car and there’s so much sand and crumbs everywhere.

QQ spilled half her tub of Froot Loops (sugar coated colourful cereal balls) in the car last week and i’m still spotting colourful cereal balls now & den.

i actualli enjoy washing and grooming the car. wat a man thing to say.

oh, another thing to complain abt, i juz discovered a dent in my front bumper tis evening.

wat’s the moral of the story? u can b the best parallel parker in the world, but there’s no guarantee the car in front or behind u are.

sigh…wat to do…i agree wif the statement tat the interior of the car belongs to u but the exterior is public

Apparently, Ford does not offer an interior upholstery selection called Cheerios & Juice. This comes as a surprise to most moms, as the inside of our cars are lined with the stuff.

If you haven’t seen the floor of your auto in a while, it’s time you got yourself (and your ride) a little treat: Get the car detailed.

The car is probably your second home (in fact, many of our cars are larger than our actual homes, but that’s a topic for another day), and you eat more meals in it than you care to admit. Those of us with newborns might even admit to sleeping in the car — once we’ve pulled into the driveway, of course — because the baby has finally fallen asleep. The result is one messy vehicle. Cookie and cereal crumbs have made their way into every crevice.

Detailing, which involves some fastidious-type person going over the car with the equivalent of a Q-tip, ensures that no one will hear the noise of roaring animal crackers anymore. Plus, you’ll get your carpets shampooed and your vents dusted (go on, take a peek at what you’ve been breathing in). Look for a local detailer in the yellow pages, or ask around at car washes. Your mechanic might even provide the service.

Since your car is your castle these days, treat yourself like a queen and get it truly clean. We can’t promise it’ll stay that way, but a spick-and-span car certainly ought to encourage tidier behavior in your passengers!

Your Daily Indulgence for Thursday, September 7, 2006

We spend so much time pushing our bodies that we forget about flexing our muscles in ways other than lifting the stroller out of the trunk seven times a day.

No, we’re not telling you to “just relax” for the umpteenth time.

Nor are we signing you up for the next yoga class at your local gym — though that’s not a bad idea (cough, cough). This time, we’re making you get a massage.

A deep-tissue or full-body fixer-upper can cost you a well-rubbed arm and a leg, so do some research on what exactly you want and need in terms of general massage techniques, such as Swedish or Rolfing, before you go.

If you’re up for a little DIY action, click through some user-friendly tutorials on at-home foot massages or fast fixes for built-up tension and stress.

Dinner @ Garlic Restaurant

1 10 2006

had dinner @ garlic restaurant before forbidden city.

the food was alrite but the service leaves much to be desired.

the place was seriously short staffed and the food and bill took a long time.

first time tat i see a packed restaurant but no staff in sight near the tables. everyone was trying to get the attention of the waiters for some service…sigh

we used for chilli sauce coz chips muz go wif sauce! when it wasn’t brought to us, we asked again, and again, and again…yes, we asked a total of 4 times before we got our chilli sauce.

at times like tis, i wonder y restaurant managers are not taught management skills.

if the staff can’t cope wif a full restaurant, they can make a decision to close some tables.

yes, u r turning away business but at least u can haf some satisfied customers and those hoo r turned away, will juz tink tat tis is a popular establishment.

however, if u onli look at immediate profits and set your sights so short-termed, wat has happened is u get a restaurant full of unhappy customers hoo will nbr return again.
