Make Love, Calm Down

31 05 2006

Do your palms sweat, knees shake, and lips quiver at the thought of giving a presentation?

The key to keeping your jitters at bay may lie between the sheets. According to a recent study, having sex before a stressful event, such as giving a speech or going on an interview, can greatly reduce anxiety. And the calming effect can last up to a week. Of course, an easier way to ensure a smooth performance is to simply know your stuff.

Wondering exactly how researchers measured the effect of sex on stress? A small group of people wrote down their daily sexual activities for two weeks. The same group then underwent several stress tests that checked their blood pressure both before and while giving a presentation.

Afterward, researchers compared the impact of different sexual activities on blood pressure. In this study, people who had intercourse were less stressed and their blood pressure returned to normal faster than those who engaged in other forms of sexual activity.
But those who abstained had the highest blood pressure response to stress.

How does sex help take your mind off your worries?
This small study, like several others, points to a hormone called oxytocin as one possibility. Oxytocin seems to play a role when two people bond; it’s released when couples have intercourse; and it’s known to reduce the sweaty, shaky signs of stress.

However, to say that the physiology of sex is complicated is a marvelous understatement. Researchers are still trying to identify the various ways that it affects human behavior. Of course, no stress reduction strategy is worth pursuing if it puts your health at risk.

The RealAge benefits to having an active, fulfilling sex life only apply when it’s safe, monogamous sex.

Best bday ever

30 05 2006

dear frens, thank u all hoo sent mi sms, presentation, blog entries for my bday.

i was tinking to myself on sun tat tis is the worst bday ever. i had no intention to celebrate it.

but i got lotsa surprises yest & i didn’t expect so many ppl to rem. so thank u all for making my day so special & my bday the best ever.

cakes nor presents do not make a bday special. it’s the thot tat really counts & made my day special.

the mee sua tat my mum cooked for mi and wanton noodles from hk cafe. nope, i didn’t eat any wanton noodles in hk. but conclusion, i really dun like to eat noodles except for bah choh mee. i had to add chilli to the noodles, so bland. we oso had their speciality toast & desserts.

if SY loves the food at hk cafe, he’ll LOVE the food in hk. hk, here we come! let’s all work hard & hit the streets in hk for shopping & makan in aug! Jia you!

Livia, your lips say you’ve got Feisty Flair

30 05 2006
We’re not just paying you lip service when we say you have bold style and a bright spark that shines through in everything you do. You love taking risks, from sporting a wild fashion trend to spicing up your life with salsa dancing or cooking classes.
A firecracker like you is never afraid to turn up the heat. So, it’s no surprise that you use your lips to say “Yes” to most of life’s exciting opportunities. And that’s why your friends are always wondering what you’re going to try or say next. It’s part of what makes you so much fun to be around. Now that’s spicy!
Cooking classes? huh? if it’s paella, can consider. tat’s the only food i wana cook & eat

Livia, the emoticon that represents you best is the Smiling Face

30 05 2006
What’s up, smiley? Somehow you just always seem to find a way to turn that frown upside down. Your upbeat attitude and friendly demeanor brighten up any room, including your favorite chat room.
Like your classic emoticon counterpart, you’re a staple on anyone’s list. Boring days and sleepless nights are far more bearable when you’re online to chat. Whether you’re shooting the breeze, catching up, or giving out advice, you can cheer up anyone on the other side of the conversation. So keep lightening the mood, making new friends, and bringing smiles to other folks’ faces. After all, it’s just so natural for you!

Livia, you’re a Playful Kisser

30 05 2006
Livia, you’re a Playful Kisser

Talk about freestyle! You’ve got originality points when it comes to kissing. You are probably the type of person who goes with the flow and plants your pecks accordingly as each situation dictates. And why shouldn’t you? The only real important rule is for you to be yourself — and to keep experimenting. If something feels good, you should keep doing it. And especially in lessons of l’amour, there’s no reason to conform.

So pucker up and keep seizing your moments! But before you get all crazy experimenting, sticking your tongue in your partner’s ear, or getting carried away with your little love bites, remember that a kiss is between two people. You don’t want to turn them off while you’re getting turned on. So if that happens, take a deep breath, slow down, and try a little tenderness.

Birthday Wishes

29 05 2006

Hi Bud,

Happy Birthday to Livia

Have a special celebration and may all your wishes come true in the coming year!

P.S. Drop by when u r free ^^

Dinner @ airport

29 05 2006

Dinner in hk after visiting the hk office

28 05 2006

group foto of our group wif the hk management & 丹爷.

they gave us such a warm reception and yesh, dinner was beli good.

besides the 13 dishes of yummy cuisine, everyone had a good time, especially the guys, drinking and miggling.

Visit to HK office

27 05 2006

visited the hk office tdy & there was a surprise guest in store for us.

clue : celebrity endorsing our product.

having some prob wif uploading foto to blogger so will keep everyone in suspense for the time being

met wif the top management again. they gave us such a warm reception & shared their aspirations of us. highly motivated & convinced of my choice nw, tis is such a rare opportunity. i m beli glad i haf tis chance!

Kunming/HK trip

24 05 2006

i m so excited abt wat i saw & realise from my kunming visit tdy!

the company is huge, huge, huge & wat we noe is onli a small part of the set up.

i oso got to mit our chairman hoo flew in from beijing especially to spend some time wif us. he had to fly in immediately after miting us!

he is such an established businessman & management whizz, well respected in the country.

it was so motivating to hear him speak of the company ( ies ) tat he has built, the ambitious plans he has for our company. and he started from scratch 10 yrs ago!

oso, he gave such a strong commitment to our company and demonstrated it thru his warm & sincere reception of us at such short notice. he even gave us an open invitation for us to hold weddings in kunming and visit the company / manufacturing plants any time we want to, wif friends or relatives. i really wish i can bring hq, yt & sy wif mi. Seeing ( and feeling ) is really believing!

we got to tour the manufacturing facilities ( we had to wear a coat, hat & shoe covers at certain areas ).

it was most interesting to see the actual process & go thru the different stages from manufacturing to packaging.

we had both bfast & lunch onsite. they haf a huge staff canteen. well equipped & fully staffed.

thru our interaction wif their staff, from the labs to the canteens to the security even, i saw a distinct difference bet them & ppl juz doing their jobs. they were so professional in their own ways & everywhere we went, the company operates like clockwork. truly impressive!

it was so clean everywhere in the facilities, i didn’t see a single cigarette butt. reminds mi of doc beatocello & the way he runs his hospitals in cambodia.

these 2 examples goes to show tat wif the correct management expertise & talent, it is possible to create miracles even in harsh & often unforgiving conditions.

abit late now, still need to b up at 7 tomolo to check out & go to airport for our flight to hk so i shall blog more at a later time. took tons & tons of fotos! can’t wait to share everything i haf seen & heard & experienced tdy. looking forward to miting up wif SY, YT & HQ on mon latest.

and btw, in case i dun update the blog tonite, i’m off to kunming/hk from tomolo to sat.

was too lazy to go causeway bay to buy 恒香 wife biscuits so i picked up 荣华 from airport instead.

juz yest, 3 persons told mi not nice! alvin in the morning, karen during lunch & HQ after lunch. pengz…ok, will get lotsa of the nice wife biscuits tis time and will try to catch up wif everyone when i’m back on sun coz the wife biscuits got beli short lifespan. hooever wants to place orders, pls leave comments. no promises but i’ll try my best

HQ, SY, YT, rem our date on Mon! cheers, Liv

Life’s full of blessings

24 05 2006

YY showed mi his spelling from yest. he got full marks for it!

tis is indirectly a blessing from mi missing the flight. i finally got to see him when he came hm from skool & went thru the spelling list wif him.

i’m not a pushy parent. i dun set target scores for him though i do traumatise him when supervising his homework. there were times when i corrected his work so many times tat he was too tired to continue. but mostly, he hands in his slip shod work. i m tat bochup abt it.

i nbr knew there is a spelling list. there was one time tat YY forgot his spelling / homework words & describe it to be as ’something to hold hot water’. i asked him if it’s ‘thermos flask’ and he said yesh so i spelt thermos flask for him. well, turns out it’s the wrong word.

HK supermkt finds

23 05 2006

mi had a super leisurely last day in hk tdy.

slept till 10+ den took a long shower & popped over to office for lunch wif ada, anthony & miriam. they treated mi to yum cha lunch at tis restaurant famous for char siew. and i oso tried the local dumpling. salty red bean…comes wif meat inside too. beli special & nice.

been so many yrs since i last saw ada & miriam. yesh, no doubt things haf changed especially in terms of work but so glad they’re as nice as ever. anthony is coming to sg next wk. he likes the food here, especially hainanese chicken rice & prawn noodles so i’ll try to arrange to mit up wif him for makan.

den shopped briefly at jusco & took a peep at the supermkt.

check out the durian & ovaltine ice-cream!

and they haf so many varieties for takeaway jap meal sets. wow! looks super yummy!

Mi is back!

23 05 2006

juz a quick note to let everyone noe mi is back.

retn flight was delayed for 40 mins due to thunder storm in hk. juz look at the queue of passengers boarding. luckily i checked in early so my seat was in row 3

juz stepped into the house. starving ah! mi took jetstar, no food u c.

didn’t really take tat many picts but still takes quite a lot of effort to upload all.

decided to upload tis one tt was taken in marie’s apt last nite.

summary, it was a fantastic trip. beli untouristy though i spent all the hkd i brought.

it’s really different when u haf a local to bring u ard and do all the local stuff.
had lotsa of yummy food & nourishing desserts ( 养颜), did my shopping at where the locals go to so i didn’t get ripped off and even did some volunteer work wif my colleagues there.

tat was really memorable & meaningful. tis trip has been one of a kind. all thanx to marie, my wonderful teamie! as expected, it was so good to be able to catch up wif her! yesh, i can’t wait to visit her again.

I missed my flight

19 05 2006

i can’t believe i did something so ‘kam’

anyway, latest update is i’m taking the 3.45pm flight and will reach Hk at 7.15pm

haf to gif lunch wif miriam, anthony & ada a miss and oso my afternoon shopping.

juz in time to go lan kwai fong though and at least my wkend plans remain intact.

still in 2 minds abt extending my stay in hk & flying to kunming direct or coming back on morn nite & flying to kunming again on thurs morning

i prefer option 1 coz i get savings of abt SGD400, i can pick up my return tickets to Kunming directly in HK and i can work on Mon. got tons of things to do.

but the trade off is i will arrive in kunming 15 hrs ahead of the rest and tat’s a pretty long transit!

all dependable on whether i haf a client meeting on tue / wed coz i will definitely come back to support the meeting.

———————————————————————————————-

tink i nearly had an anxiety attack tis morn when rushing to airport. tis is bad for health. luckily i haf a strong heart still.

but it’s oso a blessing in disguise. i realise tat i forgot my camera charger and i haf more time to follow up on status of the client meeting.

i can oso go take a short nap now.

i guess i m lucky, u dun get a second chance at all things in life.

HK Holidays

19 05 2006

haben packed yet. 2.30am liao.

need to b at airport at 5.30am.

juz wana let u guys noe tat i’ll b in hk for next 4 days. so excited at seeing marie again!

18 05 2006

Supper of Bah Choh Mee

18 05 2006

had dinner wif ah ju, pauline & 妹妹 at blk 54 tdy.

妹妹 ordered a sliced fish beehoon. costs $3 but feels so cheated. onli a few strands of bee hoon.

luckily, we supplemented our dinner wif yummy rojak and 妹妹 oso got to try the prata hotdog. bagus! 妹妹 turns out to b mayo fan too, like alvin.

we ended our nite wif supper at 85 mkt. ah nee had craving for bah choh mee after looking at my blog

surprisingly, the queue didn’t take too long tdy.

but i tink i had supper too early coz i hungry now.

we ran into yong liang and his fren matthew.

matthew took 2 B&H capsules. we shall hear his feedback tomolo.

matthew was smoking a baby cigar he got from m’sia…interesting. comes wif filter too.

didn’t smell too bad

Save Your Bones, Eat Stir-Fry

17 05 2006

The news is good if you don’t do much dairy but get a frequent hankering for Chinese food. Stir-fry dishes often include staples like broccoli, bok choy, and edamame (soybeans) — popular veggies that are bursting with bone-strengthening calcium.

Even better, these and other Chinese stir-fry favorites have a chemical makeup that allows your body to easily absorb the calcium.

Just go easy on the soy sauce — which is essentially liquid sodium — because the more salt you take in, the more calcium you’re likely to lose.

As you’ve probably heard, other green, leafy vegetables, such as spinach and Swiss chard, contain calcium, but they also contain a certain acid, called oxalate, that limits how much of the calcium your body can absorb.

In fact, you’d need to eat more than four spinach salads to get the amount of calcium in one made with Chinese spinach (and it’s not even a top veggie, calcium-wise).

Not a Chinese-food fan? Some beans — particularly white cannellini, a staple in Italian cooking — are also a good source of calcium.
But they’re the exception. Many dried beans are rich in phytate, another acid that also interferes with calcium absorption.

XO sliced fish beehoon and supper post clubbing

16 05 2006

tried the famous XO sliced fish beehoon at holland.

beli nice soup & fish, beli thick slices!

oso had the 三捞河粉. but tat was ordinary

Wash basin

14 05 2006

btw, there was tis cute little wash basin wif mirror at a corner of the hawker centre at geylang east central. quite a nice touch hor!

and we didn’t notice it at first and went into the coffeeshop toilet to wash hands post crab eating.

readily available wash basins will help promote handwashing before meals. my habit at home but i seldom do tat outside.

Corner coffeeshop at Aliwal St

14 05 2006

wow! despite mi keeping close tabs on tis shop, it has still closed down wifout my knowledge.

coz mi been parking before the 7-11 stretch and jaywalking to keypoint of late.

marie will be proud tat i dare to jaywalk now instead of doing the cross to keypoint den cross to aliwal at traffic lights.

i beli heng to haf LJ & marie the brave jaywalkers duo as buddies coz they haf to drag mi across the road each time.

when we were in cambodia, i was so scared by the traffic tat i would b standing there all day if not for LJ. and every time we cross the roads amid the mad oncoming & never ending stream of cars and motorbikes, i would be going 救命啊!! 不要撞我!!

Dinner @ Cafe 2000, M Hotel

14 05 2006

had dinner wif YT @ Cafe 2000 of M hotel.

we had the seafood fried rice ( S$28!! ) and fish & chips.

but we realised we are 咸菜命 coz we didn’t tink the lobster is beli nice. even the prawns are quite dry.

14 05 2006

Had dinner wif LJ, karen & alex on wed nite @ geylang east central. we had the set meal wif chilli crabs, cereal prawns and steamed seabass. wat a feast!

they served us chocolate flavoured xiao man tou for dipping in the chilli crab gravy.

first time i tried chocolate wif chilli crab.

we strongly suspect tat they ran out of man tou and ran to NTUC to buy. haha

alex was surprised at how much we gers can eat, especially LJ. the plate on the left is hers and the one on the rite is mine. need i say more?

hopefully our metabolism will remain high coz we love to eat…can eat a lot even when we’re not hungry! no wonder we always say LJ got worms in her stomach…hehe

The Wild – 29 Apr

14 05 2006

went for the movie screening of The Wild organised by rec club. Su Sin joined mi, YY & QQ for the show.

tis is QQ’s first theatre show! but she fidgeting a lot. sat on my lap for abit den wana sit on her own den stand up & start to disturb YY hoo’s sitting behind.

but she could understand the show which made mi pleasantly surprised. she told mi tat the ‘papa’ lion can’t find the baby liao when the cub jumped onto the lorry by mistake. sorry, but i not big fans of toking animals so i can’t rem their names. will update when i ask YY abt it.

reminds mi of narnia. both marie & YY were making comments abt toking lions. tink they can become good frens, same wavelength leh.

post show, i sent su sin back & we went for rochor beancurd enroute. QQ tried her best to finish her bowl of beancurd while YY acted cheeky again.

mi in the car

14 05 2006

mi in the car while waiting for LJ to change $$.

went to pick her from ulu pandan. i din get lost leh! so proud of myself. YT was rite in getting mi to go fetch LJ. i always thot ghim moh is near the ghim moh hawker centre.

and i noe where copthorne orchid and the next PIE exit after eng neo is liao. Whitley!

Fri Nite feast

14 05 2006

had a feast last nite at 85 mkt.

of course, we had bah choh mee to start wif but being greedy, we oso had bbq stingray, otah, satay and chicken wings

as LJ & moi walked ard the stalls and ordered more stuff, we kept telling each other tat we’re not hungry…hehe…but we still ate a lot!

Mathematics :
we wanted to buy 3 otah @ 40 cents each
auntie suggested we get 5 @ $2.
i said ok without tinking den after 5 secs, i asked auntie, isn’t it the same price to buy 5?
auntie said whole figure easier to calculate…i pengz

but tis is still better den the tissue seller hoo went 3 for $1, 5 for $2. haha

we ran into HL wif his wife. wat a coincidence.

and we started the topic of ex bfs.
YT started toking abt mine.
there were roy, leon ( whom i dun recall the name but onli his surname ), raymond and marc. actualli, we left out junhao ( did i rem his name correctly? ), the hamster man as i would rem him.

i m not the kind hoo would keep in touch wif exs. but i do wonder wat happened to them and hope things are going well for them.

缘尽缘灭但相见还是朋友.

i haben been able to do it yet except for marc but i do hope i get there

and slept thru the entire duration we were there.

anthea and renette were having a ball…happily wobbling ard the house.

You’re looking for a Frisky Fling

14 05 2006

Take this test at Tickle

You’re looking for a Frisky Fling

You’re ready for an adventurous, free-spirited affair to remember.
And if it comes in the form of someone who shakes up your world a bit, helps you expand your horizons, then decides to stay for awhile — all the better.

It’s not that you don’t want a serious relationship.
It’s just that you might rather get there with someone who’s equally committed to having fun for now.

Ever wanted to drive up the coast or across your town in a red convertible?
Interested in staying at a restaurant so late the chef himself joins you at the table for a late night cappuccino?
Or are you really more into a no-strings-attached companion?

For some people, a good fling starts with someone you can spend the whole day in bed with — whether you’re under the covers or playing cards in your PJs.

But for others a fling is just a light-hearted approach to finding a different way to spend quality time with someone new.

What Are You Looking for in a Relationship?

Vesak Day

12 05 2006

back from my temples visiting and buddha bathing rituals for vesak.

i was at level 3 court 6 but YT told mi court 6 is on level 5…wrong court!
  • YT’s mini perfume was detained by the security but pauline’s lighter was cleared.
    conclusion : 只能有其一,不能有其二.
so since the lighter went thru, cannot let the flammable object of perfume go thru as well.
  • i said yes yes yes many times.
conclusion : u onli say yes once to get hitched but it takes a lot more yes to get unhitched.
  • the judge took so long to look thru the docs and even asked qns.
kept us in suspence. i was wondering wat if he says no! not approved. den i’ll really pengz!
  • i didn’t noe it was over coz the judge said something i couldn’t understand, not english
  • when we stepped out of the courtroom, my lawyer said “u got so many supporters, no wonder the court is so full tdy.”
haha, so many cases to be heard. min is 2 persons, the petitioner and the lawyer but i got 4 supporters karen, paul, YT & LJ. ger power mah!

muz try tomolo and report on taste!

That Morning Caffeine Fix? Consider It Health Care

11 05 2006

Here’s another plug for green tea — and coffee, too.

A large Japanese study has found that sipping away on six cups of green tea each day may shrink type 2 diabetes risk, especially among women and overweight men.
Why?
Researchers aren’t sure yet, but caffeine may play a role.
Even though green tea’s not loaded with the stuff, other studies have found that the caffeine in coffee seems to guard against diabetes.

was waiting at the traffic light junction o/s keypoint tis morning when i noticed tat the pavement is covered by little yellow flowers

sg oso got autumn feeling liao.

A Gym for Your Memory

9 05 2006

Want to have the kind of mind that can recall directions with MapQuest-like accuracy?
Get moving.

Take a walk, go for a bike ride, hit the gym.
Exercise makes extra space in the “scratch pad” part of your brain, also known as your working memory.
It’s where you jot down bits of information that you need to act on immediately, such as which street to turn onto or what the chef’s daily specials are.

How much activity will do the memory-sharpening trick?

It depends on what you do and how often.
If you’re an easy-does-it kind of exerciser, aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity (brisk walking is fine) on most days of the week.
However, if you prefer to push yourself — swimming laps, lifting weights, tearing it up on a rowing machine — three 20-minute sessions a week are all it takes.

Researchers recently found that doing just this much increased working memory in a group of young adults.
The reason isn’t totally clear.
It may simply be that exercise increases nourishing blood flow to the brain, but regular workouts also may alter brain structures in beneficial ways.
In any event, you may not care why, as long as you can remember all those little things you’ve been trying not to forget.

Dinner wif HQ & YT and family ties

9 05 2006

Livia, the brightest color in your aura is Red

8 05 2006

Contrary to popular myth, auras are actually multi-colored energy fields that can be divided into seven primary layers.

Having Red as your brightest color means that the first layer of your aura is the most vibrant.

You most likely experience exceptional physical health, which gives you great vitality and energy.

Your deep connection to your body makes it easier for you to express your spirit, and you’re more open than most to cultivating life’s lessons.

My Stream and accidents

8 05 2006

sigh! been realli suay and accident prone lately.

i scratched my front bumper slightly when i was parking in my multi storey carpark previously.

stoopid design…so dark in the day tat i can’t even see the wall in front.

den i rammed into the back of a taxi.

juz last fri, i rammed into the back of a bus!

but the blessing in disguise was both times, the uncles were nice enuff not to pursue the matter.

and of course, nobody was hurt on all occassions which is reason enuff to b grateful.

well, last nite i had another freak accident.

i went to pick up my bro and niece from shop N save which is juz round the corner.

it was raining and i stopped at the service road behind SnS.

there was a taxi parked in front of mi. the plate is SH9981C.

my bro put the groceries into the car first den took an umbrella to shupin & baby.

i wasn’t even looking infront when the cab started to reverse rite into my stream!

I WAS SHOCKED! all tis while my headlights were still on! how could the uncle not haf seen mi parked behind him all tis time??

anyway, when i got out of the car, i oredi decided not to pursue the matter. tis is in gratitude for the uncles who were so nice to me and to keep the good karma going.

but the cabby started to shout at me & said i should haf horned him.

PENG! tis is called 恶人先告状! mayb it was becoz he thot i’m juz a ger hoo can b easily bullied.

sigh…anyway, since i oredi made up my mind how i wanted to handle the matter, i juz asked him how come he didn’t see mi.

my bro who was at the void deck next to the service road walked over and scolded the cabby for not even looking behind before reversing. he wanted to make a police report but i told him no.

  • to mi, $ is not the most impt thing. wat matters is i handled the
matter the way i wanted to.
  • the cabby will haf to fix his cab as a result of his mistake.
  • he’ll suffer loss of income while it’s being fixed
  • and hopefully, he’ll b more careful in future. wat if someone was
    crossing the road behind him??
  • i hope tis will b a lesson to him

at first i wanted to wait till i got time before fixing the scratch on the bumper. now got no choice coz i realised when i got back to my carpark tat the front bumper is misaligned.

sigh…now reali boh bian…muz go workshop liao

i sent my stream into the workshop tdy. YT’s mechanic brought us to tis workshop. nice guy…i need to ask him abt the iridium spark plug & aircon filter coz kah motor didn’t service these non original parts

and i can get my car back tomolo evening! YEA!

i was so worried tat i’ll haf no time to get my car fixed

6 05 2006

WOW!

Wat Freud says abt mi

6 05 2006

Livia, Freud would say your strongest unconscious conflict stems from events that happened when you were an Adolescent.

He would also conclude that relative to others, your personality today is moderately affected by the events of your childhood.

It appears that your biggest unconscious conflict that still afflicts you stems from what Freud defined as the genital stage of development that occurred when you were older than 13.

Freud would say that this conflict can manifest in your personality by making you more prone to seek a partner similar to your opposite-sex parent.

However, you have a relatively less conflicted sense of gender identity than most people do. This normally happens when parents successfully avoid all the major pitfalls most parents make in earlier years and the child uses their resiliency to manage any early conflicts.

Freud defined five psychosexual developmental stages that everyone goes through on their way from infancy to adolescence. And each of those stages is associated with adult personality traits.

At each stage, we all had to overcome certain “conflicts” or hurdles as we learned new skills and developed relationships with others. No one gets through all five stages without having trouble with at least one of them. And it’s this unresolved “trouble” that Freud encouraged people to travel back to, recognize, and overcome.

An Equal Opportunity Upper

6 05 2006

It’s free. It’s legal. And it can make you feel good — really good — even if you’re down.

It’s exercise.
And although you’ve probably heard that it acts as a natural mood booster, here’s the kicker:
you don’t need to be down for exercise to bring you up.
In a study, women who were already feeling fine experienced just as much of a mood boost from exercise as women who were depressed and anxious.
So be a feel-good overachiever and get moving.

RealAge Benefit: Exercising regularly can make your RealAge as much as 9 years younger.

Don’t think you need a mood boost?
That’s fine. You’ll still feel more energized, think more clearly, and experience a general high if you grab a workout anyway.
Of course, if you are feeling angry, confused, down, tense, or tired, working out will help alleviate all of that.
So for the sake of your mind as well as your body, get active for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
Choose an activity you enjoy, whether it’s hiking on neighborhood trails, conquering a challenging path on your mountain bike, or playing a rousing game of fetch with your dog.
Just get moving. Because — really — can’t everyone use a good mood boost?

Street Directory Top 3 searches

5 05 2006

I was searching for directions for YT when I came across these statistics

No prizes for guessing why singaporean’s top searches are related to elections.

we don’t need buses to ferry us to rallies. we will get to where we want to go, on our own means.

What is Singapore Searching?

Yesterday’s Top 3 Location Search
1. Ang Mo Kio Street 51

My poor laptop!

4 05 2006

had crisis tis evening as i was packing up to go home.

i couldn’t unlock the cable lock of my laptop. steve was oredi at the door but i walked over to him for help. he tried & tried but to no avail.

i checked the service booklet for targus & alas, all their customer service offices in JAPA were closed by 6pm.

wat to do? and all tis while, pei kim is waiting for mi downstairs!

i walked over to the tech side & got sunny to help. he checked & gave mi the bad news tat my laptop will most prob haf to be chained in the office tonite.

i checked dot/marie’s cable lock which oso cannot b unlocked wif the correct combination….conclusion, i tink targus cable lock sucks lor…tomolo, they will get nasty call from mi abt tis

heng ah! no client miting tomolo…if not how?

even if i cut the chain, the lock still stuck to my laptop & i can’t use another lock

tis is bad, is bad, is bad.

Give Your Heart the Silent Treatment

4 05 2006

Loud noises that drive you batty may be bad for your heart, too.

Screaming children, honking traffic, the construction site next door — being constantly assaulted by the high-decibel sounds of modern-day life can make stress levels soar and heart health plummet.

The simplest solution may be to block out some of it.
Tote a set of earplugs to deal with relentless noise or, in a pinch, just stick your fingers in your ears.

Your heart will slow and your ears will feel better, too.

RealAge Benefit: Actively patrolling your health can make your RealAge as much as 12 years younger.

How loud is too loud?

It depends on whether you’re concerned about your heart or your hearing.

For your ears, anything around 70 or 80 decibels — a noisy office, a loud vacuum — can damage your hearing if you’re exposed to it for several hours. (And, yes, a rock concert is off the hearing charts — worse than a jackhammer.)

But for your heart, it can take less noise pollution to create cardiac stress.
Just living near high-traffic roads made people more prone to a heart attack, research shows.

It’s a good reason to seek out quiet time every day, whether that means taking a warm soak after work or a peaceful walk with a friend, your dog, or just your inner thoughts.

now, i tink my daily shower ritual is doing mi some good after all.
and i enjoy a long walk by myself wif juz my thots.
sometimes, i do get so fed up in the car tat i need to off the radio for my thots

The Bright Side Wins

4 05 2006

It’s not cockeyed to be an optimist. In fact, looking on the bright side can help keep you feeling strong and steady.

One study after another has found that an optimistic attitude can help people avoid illness as they age.
But the benefits of an upbeat attitude don’t stop there.
Even if something bad does happen — say, a broken hip — optimists are more likely to bounce back, while others may slide into frailty.

So if anyone gives you a hard time about always looking on the bright side, shrug them off.
And enjoy the last laugh.

RealAge Benefit: Taking care of your emotional health and well-being can make your RealAge up to 16 years younger.

Positive thinking appears to protect your health in several ways. For starters, it enhances immune system function, so stress and disease are less likely to run you down.
It also encourages independence and an outgoing attitude, which in turn fend off depression and anxiety.
Still, nobody feels like Mary Sunshine every moment.

So when you do find yourself down, try making a list of what’s bothering you — whether it’s two things or 10 — and then tuck it away for a bit.

When you come back to it later, with some luck, what was bugging you will have cleared up or seem simpler to solve.

easier said den done!

Rally at Tampines tonite

3 05 2006

blogger continues to fail mi for fotos upload. sigh…wat to do..can onli write lor

went for the rally besides tampines safra wif SY & XM. we parked at LJ’s place & walked over. i was late, got there ard 7.30 so tabao yam cake & bao for dinner…tat’s y my stomach is growling now : (

the field was onli abt 1/3 filled when we got there ard 8. we stood besides the floodlights & were pretty near the front though we can onli see the top of the stage and not the speakers.

since tis is my 3rd nite, i m beginning to recognise the voices of the speakers.

  • the veteran in WP first explained in teochew the whole voting process to the point of burning the votes 6 mths post elections. though i can’t realli speak teochew well, i was able to understand & the mani jokes the speech was peppered wif. i oso translated a bit of the speech to SY.
  • tonite is the first time i hear chia ti lik speak & he touched on a topic close to my heart.
upgrading and the shameless use of it as a political tool

the whole policy of using upgrading to threaten & discriminante against singaporeans is WRONG & we need to express our anger abt tis.

though i haf the good fortunate to b staying in a mainstream ruling party ward ( but it was nbr MY CHOICE ), i totally disagree wif the unfairness & punishing stand taken against my fellow countrymen staying in hougang.

they pay the same taxes to contribute to the 1st world pay of our ministers, didn’t get xtra discount on their HDB and yet are unfairly denied of upgrading!

wat kind of warped reasoning is there to justify tis?

as fellow singaporeans, how can we condone such discrimination against our colleagues & frens? everytime i tok abt tis, i get beli tulan…if i staying in hougang tdy, i’ll write to HDB everyday & complain. how dare they ‘punish’ citizens tis way!

and the speech was closed wif ‘dun forget, one of the stars on our flag represent equality’

tis statement gave mi the shivers and nearli moved mi to tears.

and there was some brief mention of window rivets…now i shall write abt tat after hearing wat they haf to say. but i haf brought it up to my bro too tat it’s ridiculous to make ppl pay for a mistake HDB made in not outfitting the windows wif the rite rivets.

HDB flat can stay for 99 yrs but windows rivets muz change so quickly??

since it onli costs 70 cents per rivet, y our rich & caring govt dun change all the window rivets for us? sureli, tat will cost them less den the progress package?

instead, we are made to rush to meet the deadline or face a fine for not retifying HDB’s mistake. wat crap!
come on, u r the developer, u built the flats so dun shrink from your responsibility!

we left soon after SY managed some shots from the overhead bridge. we walked to a nearby blk & SY took more shots from the top floor.

i got a shock when i saw the aerial view of the field. i didn’t realise the field was so so packed wif ppl! and there were many others outside the perimeter of the field!

and yesh, it was again a time of muddy fields but we ventured braveli on into the centre of the crowd.

after i witnessed the turnout at the rallies, i truly believe in the power of the ppl.

it is time to 还政于民

tis time ard, i haf a say. i haf a voice tat will be heard becoz i haf a choice

the more ppl are oppressed and denied the truth in its entirety, the more ppl will retaliate.
u can put the rallies at the most inconvenient locations
u can gif us muddy fields and the beach
but u can’t stop singapore loving ppl from going to see the truth for themselves.
and no, u dun need to provide buses
we haf legs and we haf brains.
we will figure out how to get to where we want to be.

Look out for your MPs! once in 5 yrs sightings!

3 05 2006

SINGAPORE : Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says meeting residents door to door is what real campaigning is all about.

I got home juz in time to hear tis on tonite’s news.

how come i nbr see my MP visiting mi huh? mayb there won’t b any real campaigning here??

how come when raymond lim & teo chee hean come to pasir ris, we muz go to the ‘carnival’ and welcome him instead?

hoo is my MP for heaven’s sake? i haben seen him in the past 5 yrs! i onli noe before they change to new guy, it was charles chong.

can i hold khaw boon wan to his word tat my MP will finally visit mi?

i quickly verified wif my mum if our MP has visited so far. as expected, the answer is NO!

so how? should i take leave for the next few days & wait at home for my MP to visit?? once in 5 yrs leh! rare sighting sia!

and i realli need to feedback on the way my MP’s party is distributing materials to my house.

i heard some candidate from my MP’s party saying AP onli put up posters at nite.

and one of the candidate from the incumbent party of tampines oso commented tat AP onli comes once in 5 yrs…well, i oso 5 yrs no see my MP liao leh…but i understand, when i haf no choice, i’m treated like beggar!

well, so far i received 3 sets of materials from my MP’s party.

  • i found tis newsletter stuck between my gate & main door when i got home late 1 nite.

now, my family sleeps after 11 so they muz haf come by after 11 & stuffed it there

aiyah, mayb my MP came personalli?? missed him oredi lah

  • 2nd time is when my bro opened the main door to go out & smoke at 7++ in the morning.

he caught a man outside our unit so he asked him wat is he doing there? so sneaky rite??

he replied he’s juz distributing some materials for my MP’s party…confirm no MP wif him…alas, i’m disappointed again…juz wat else is new?

  • 3rd time was sun afternoon when i was sitting in the living room.
we haf open door policy, meaning main door is kept open throughout the day as long as we’re at home & awake.

tis lady came along & THREW something thru my gate, onto my floor!
i thot it muz b some stoopid ad leaflet again so i walked over & stepped on it.
U throw on the floor, expect mi to pick up & read?? wat kinda altitude is tis??

paiseh paiseh, later i discovered tat it’s yet another publication from my MP’s party.
tis time it’s all abt wat they haf done for our GRC…lotsa picts too.

aiyoh, even though singaporeans r quite forgetful…especially abt wat is promised during elections, we can still see wat is done and of course, wat is NOT being done lah
no need to throw thing into my house to remind mi lah!

Footnote, i stay on the top floor wif no lift leh…the lift stops at every floor except my floor.

will my MP remember to fight for lift upgrading for my floor? oredi 13 yrs leh…dun ask mi which idiot decided not to put lift on my floor.

i checked the few blks of flats ard, the lifts stop at every floor leh.

looking at east coast grc ie. SY’s place, they juz got letter on 1st may tat their lift will be upgraded. their flat oredi 28 yrs old leh

does tat mean i need to wait for another 15 yrs? aiyoh, by tat time, my mum will b 80 liao lor! how to climb stairs? can my caring MP pls do something abt it instead of hiding for past 5 yrs??

Picts u dun get in the papers

3 05 2006

totally impressed by the sheer size of the crowd.

hoo says singaporeans are not concerned abt politics?

but the way media hide the truth or practise selective reporting is damn disgusting…the more they try to oppress the ppl & ‘fed’ us wif the kind of information in their favour, the more ppl tulan & will make the trip personal to see it wif their own eyes.

Please see this pict to feel the power of the ppl for yourselves

sorrie, i juz discovered the foto has been removed due to too mani hits. it shows fotos taken at the various rallies

i onli haf the one SY took last nite at tampines so here it is

Beach Rally

3 05 2006

i am realli outdoing myself tis time. will die in office tomolo from lack of sleep…tink i need to drink gallons of teh-c to keep myself alert.

but too fired up to sleep wifout completing my posts.

went to the beach rally at east coast park last evening wif mum & the 2 kids in tow.

didn’t step out of the house on Sun but the heavy rain in the afternoon was making mi undecided abt whether to go out at all on mon.

suddenli, my mum announced at abt 6 tat the rain has stopped miraculously.

we quickly got out of the house & headed for east coast park for the rally.

as usual, the carparks near D1 were all full. D1 was filled wif police vehicles, got riot buses & lotsa police cars.

i parked at the public carpark after mac. ya, it’s a long walk but wat to do.

we walked over to mac for dinner & i tabao-ed some fries for the kids to munch on during the rally.

by the time we walked over to the rally site, it was coming to 8. but there were still many ppl walking there from all directions. some walked from the same direction as us ( from mac ) while others came from the marine parade underpass.

Sea of umbrellas

we were greeted by a sea of umbrellas when we got near the rally site. considering the muddy & soggy field at ubi, the beach site is considered a lot drier. at least there were parts of the pavement one could stand on.

mum urged mi to move forward so we can see the stage. where got so easy when so many ppl ard?

I apologise

the best joke of the nite muz b gomez’s opening line.

he went ‘firstly, i want to apologize’
the crowd kept quiet
‘for the rain!’
the crowd went wild at tis point and clapped loudly…laughter filled the air
he went on to say tat he would haf picked a drier mth for elections if he had a choice.

lousy tactics, haben lost but behaving like sore loser

i had lunch wif ivy & gang tdy.
i told her tat loyang is under east coast grc coz i saw the posters when i turned out of pasir ris.

i didn’t expect her to say how sick she was of hearing ppl harping on the Gomez incident.
it shows how scared some party is when they kept at the same point. like a mad dog tat keeps biting on something & refuses to let go.

especially when the ppl haf accepted the apology

we haf eyes to see & minds to tink & make a judgement.
there were claims tat tis incident shows the kind of character Gomez is.
leave tat to us voters to decide
when some ppl keep harping on it, it oso shows us wat kind of character they are!
and when u call for him to withdraw, it makes us wonder if u r being a sore loser in advance.
are u so afraid of Gomez and his team tat u need to resort to tis?

if u haf nuthing else to offer mi except criticism of ur opponent, i m beli disappointed wif u.

if u didn’t tink out ur 5 yr plans carefully, how can i trust u to take care of mi & my family in the next 5 yrs? i m reading the manifestos & impressed by the better written one.

frenz, i urge u to b a responsible voter & read the manifestos for urself.

why i brought the kids along

i need to ‘open’ their eyes & minds and teach them how to make a judgement by themselves.

i had to show them wat TV & newspaper cannot report.

i cannot allow them to grow up wif onli the information, tat the government or the ruling party for tat matter, wants them to hear.

Rally @ Ubi

2 05 2006

I m having probs uploading my picts taken at the rally @ Ubi but i shall continue wif my posting all the same.

Getting there

i went to the rally @ Ubi wif karen & alex on fri nite.
though we haf the address which says open field by ubi rd 1, ave 2 & ave 3 & ZY kindly checked the st directory for mi, we still didn’t noe where it was.

we got there ard 8 when the rally was well underway.

the ubi area was packed wif ppl crossing the roads & many many cars. there were oso plenty of police ard at every junction. we thot we would b able to catch the broadcast of the rally over loudspeakers but there was nothing to b heard.

we drove ard till we found parking & juz got out & followed the crowd blindly as the ppl looked like they were going somewhere purposefully.

one car stopped besides us & the young couple inside asked where the rally was. we replied tat we were juz following the crowd too.

an elderly couple walking together wif us started chit chatting along the way. the uncle told mi in english tat they are grandparents & nbr miss the rallies.
he told mi how mbt lost potong pasir when he spoke abt educational levels at the rally.
he oso told how the rallies of AP will b many many times larger den tat of PAP.

we lost them after a while as karen & moi decided to walk faster. we crossed some roads & got to tis huge open field filled wif ppl. it was a real eye-opener as i nbr imagined the turnout to b so big!

note the signage :

State Land
Enter at your own risk

the field was soggy & muddy after the rain earlier in the evening but we ventured on bravely into the crowd & moved closer to the stage, all the while looking for a drier spot to stand on.
needless to say, our shoes & feet were soon covered in mud & water.

The rally

the crowd went wild when LTK & sylvia lim arrived.

LTK greeted the crowd by expressing his gratitude at everyone hoo has turned up despite the odd location and no buses to fetch us.

there were several speakers before LTK ie. Dr Tan and all the candidates for Aljunied GRC.

they all spoke well & raised many points tat were in my mind too :

  • the need for governance – i haf always wondered abt the lack of ‘corporate’ governance within the govt. governance or the ppl’s watchdog has to be independent of the govt.

  • greater transparency – how much reserves are there and how much returns investment made are generating. tat is the least u would expect from someone entrusted wif your $$
  • greater accountability – yes, we r grateful tat PAP has brought singapore to where it is tdy. but tat doesn’t mean everything belonging to singapore belongs to them too.
they’re juz the trustees of the ppl and we need more information on how our $$ is being spent, how much investments are making & the amount of losses incurred
  • the high cost of living, medical costs and unemployment jobs
  • the best part is the comparison bet the manifestos. to b honest i onli got to page 8 of the WP’s manifesto and there is so such information for mi to take in.

the next climax came when sylvia lim took the stage.
there was a couple of female supporters of her hoo started to chant ‘WP, WP’ when she came onstage.

Verdict

i m so glad i attended tis rally.

  • first & foremost, the huge turnout convinced mi tat singaporeans r not juz $$ faced but cares abt the country too.

  • the lousy conditions of the rally location do not deter ppl from coming to render their support for AP.
  • i used to go to rallies held in bedok when i was a little ger. how things have changed!
LTK was able to speak calmly abt PAP. it was beli gracious of him.
from the shouting uncle candidates to tdy’s group of professionals & passionate ppl hoo share the same version ahead.

Post rally

as we walked back to the car thru the industrial estates, we passed by a rubbish collection centre where someone has got a hose out.

a queue has formed for ppl to wash their muddy shoes & feet.

see! singaporeans are so adaptable & able to improvise…not to mention beli united too coz everyone juz queued up in an orderly manner and took turns wif the hose.

1 05 2006

went cake hunting before miting ah nee for her bday.

wanted to get the most yummy chocolate cake in sg…awfully chocolate but alas, the shop was closed.

views taken from the car while i waited for ah ju & pauline to run & get the cake from katong mall

in the end, we got the durian cake from angie’s the choice.
and i saw the shortest traffic light junction in sg. the distance is so short tat i tink a zebra crossing would make more sense. tis is juz before city plaza.

for ah nee

Farm visits and Shopping 9th Apr

1 05 2006

the day continued wif farm visits wif karen & alex.

first stop is the hay dairies where we took a little tour to look at the goats

i oso bought 6 bottles of the goat’s milk, one of which i gulped down immediately.

they packed it so nicely tat it can last 8 hrs wifout refrigeration! i m impressed!

our next stop is to a vegetables farm which is not such a long drive away. but i’ll definitely not be able to find the way if not for karen & alex.

the lettuce are grown using wifout soil…i forgot the correct term for tis. juz pick the lettuce u like & lift it out of the water…so cute…i couldn’t resist getting my own lettuce which my mum kept fresh when we got back by dipping the roots in water too. we used a recycled oil bottle tat my mum cut open instead.

and note the lettucinno ( kiwi+lime+lettuce juice ), karen’s fav

nope, i didn’t try coz i was traumaticed by tis veg juice i tried in carrefour mani moons ago. eeks…taste like raw veggies lor..yuck

Shopping time!

we ended the day wif groceries shopping at sheng siong at the legendary mall where all the shops closed down till sheng siong became the anchor tenant

and we bought some of the famous and yummy otah..veri brisk business. non stop stream of customers as i waited for my orders to be filled.

the junction showing alex’s place or as karen puts it…the ugly HDB blocks

and i thot i m bad wif colours.

Temple visit 9th Apr

1 05 2006

after the bfast meeting and the short stint in A&E, the day continued with temple visit at eunos.

we prayed to the God of Sun and it used to be held in a point blk flat in toa payoh.

it was onli recently tat they held all festive celebrations at tis temple at eunos.

interestin poster i saw on project million lotus.

kym ng is the ambassador for tis.

i like the way tat the communal eating of vegetarian food after praying is referred to as 结缘.

yes, it takes 缘分 for ppl to mit and haf a meal together.

it reminds us to appreciate chance acquaintances and ppl we mit in life.

they insisted we tabao some food back. the gluten is my fav of all time..so yummy i can eat the whole pot by myself : P
