also came across Shu’en’s car picts which he sent to mi beli beli long ago.

at first glance, i thot the model of the car is scarer…on closer look, it’s actualli soarer…hehe

The French Stall

went to The French Stall wif Karen for dinner tonite.

she’s a regular patron on their mailing list and today’s the 5th anniversary of the restaurant.

they had a special menu for the nite and the place was packed.
latecomers had to wait for quite abit for seats

the place was nicely decorated wif balloons for their birthday

we ordered french onion soup as the starter and had veggie stuffed roast suckling pig for the main.

both were really nice and the set came wif a glass of wine too.

the best part was the puff pastry wif ice-cream….so sinful & yummy!

reminds mi of all the desserts wif ice-cream we had in cambodia!

I found the tile designs on the walkway very nostagic.

it has a charm of its own.

definitely a place worth visiting again.

Peppermint tea

mi is tea addict…need my daily dose of Teh-C & green tea to keep mi going.

in fact, i hardly take plain water in the office, most green tea…juz 1 tea bag tat i’ll keep topping up wif hot water

green tea is one of my fav till i tried peppermint tea which was love at first sip

and i’ve onli tried the twinnings peppermint tea. i was at jason’s marketplace @ Paragon and they carry many many twinnings blend EXCEPT for peppermint.

the onli peppermint i can find is Pompadour which i haf nbr heard of.

tried the tea these 2 days and i muz say tat it’s beli nice. peppermint has the “perk mi up” effect. makes mi feel beli alert yet relaxed.

Les Mis

had a beli late lunch tdy by myself coz i was rushing some work.

one lesson i learnt many yrs back, is to always get out of the office at lunch, even for a quickie.

i learnt tis the hard way when there was once i lunched in for more den 1 wk. and i didn’t even leave my table during lunch. juz ate in front of the comp.
at the end of the day, i felt like i was going to die. so terrible.

so i make it a point to go outside the office for a bit of fresh air & to rest my poor mind for abit.

anyway, after having my fav yong tau foo at the foodcourt downstairs, i walked away abit.

picked up tis twin cds containing performance of Les Mis

now of the musicals i haf watched, les mis is my all time favourite. i still haf the cassette in my car and i love reliving the musical as i listen to the songs.

they even gave an English/Chinese song books wif lyrics in english and wif chinese transalation.

Rainx & Car wash

mi been washing my car myself though my mum always tell mi to pay $5 & get it done at petrol kiosk.

but i prefer to wash it myself…onli 40 cents for 2 pails of water. more den enuff, i can even wash the rims.

and i like to apply leather care & armourall everywhere in the car. which reminds mi tat it’s been a while since i last applied the leathercare…shall do it tomolo nite.

i usualli apply armourall to the dashboard when i stop at red lights…hehe, gers can multi-task.

anyway, i’m a sucker for new & interesting products tat boosts of all kinds of performances.

way cool! coz i bought rainx but despite my applying & buffing, i dun see much effect.

nah beh! dun tell mi tis shell station oredi haf stock when i hunted ard pasir ris / punggol for it the other nite.

i need to go shoot myself if tat’s the case liao.

YT left her keys at my desk after coming for her interview.

popped over to the hospital @ balestier where she was doing physio. incidentally, we decided to jio HQ for dinner when we were heading off for food.

See! we always so spontaneous & making such last min arrangements!

YT & LJ wanted KFC or BK so i suggested KFC @ East Coast

YT looked really puzzled and asked if it’s at Big Splash.

LJ and moi went on to prompt her excitedly. our clues were :

1. the very big one
2. got drive thru
3. near indoor stadium

it was at tis point tat YT realised we’re actualli toking abt KFC @ Kallang & not East Coast.

somehow, LJ understood which one i was referring to.

but after jio-ing HQ, we went to KFC @ Bedok Central instead.

YT & HQ concentrating on their chicken

and YT’s hand has a burnt mark where she was scalded by the edge of the pan

and LJ’s fone rang while she was savouring her chicken. she got called up for tomorrow.

we decided at 6pm to haf dinner together since YT was in shenton way area and both HQ & ah mun were in office.

wanted to go to changing appetites at far east square but alas, they not opened tdy.

so we walked over to Vilàge instead

our wedges and a huge serving of sour cream tat looks more than our wedges.

i had the seafood oven baked rice which remains mi of my fav paella…so yummy!

how i miss the paella in sydney!

and we discovered tat HQ has a fetish for sausages. especially after the misrepresentation at 85 last nite when she was conned by the stall’s pictures into ordering sausage wif potato salad.

but turned out she was served sausage wif french fries and baked beans. eeks!
and the stall helper can tell her tat they always served the sausage like tat.

isn’t tis an outright misrepresentation of the food they sell?? pls dun patronise tis stall ! !

such a world of difference! anyway, she doesn’t recall the stall name but the clues are :

1. NOT the usual stall at one corner selling nice western food
2. tis stall sells curry chicken in the day
3. somewhere near the hokkien mee and dumplings stalls
4. according to YT, signboard is blue

if anyone happens to go there, pls take a picture of the signboard for mi, ya, so i can 好好表扬 the stall tat misrepresented its food.

juz had a tête-à-tête wif a gf after my little outing to bottle tree village.

Singapore International Film Fest

SY went to get tickets for the Singapore International Film Fest ( siff ) yesterday.

he’ll be catching 9 films while i chose 7. and i couldn’t get LJ on the fone so we decided her fate on her behalf & got her tickets for all 7 shows tat i’m watching….hehe

i d/l the siff schedule liao. juz need to pick those i’m watching den i can let LJ check if she’s ard. btw, ger, u haben tell mi ur roster from next mon onwards and SY realised he’s no longer on ur distribution list.

if LJ can’t make it to the shows, my dear frens, one of u will be the victim!

back to the topic of my 1st arty farty film. since i was wif colleagues, the prime suspects are not many. mainly, karen, pauline & ah von. hoo else do i go out wif huh? so will one of u own up & tell mi wat show it is?

and we figured out y it left such a deep impression on SY even though he catches so many films each yr. it’s becoz he was deserted halfway thru the show.

he even told mi wat the show was abt & it still didn’t ring a bell to mi. see, if the show so unimpressionable, no wonder i ws bored to tears.

wat’s the conclusion?

the deserted will remember being deserted but the deserters haf no impression watsoever of wat they haf done….haha

i managed to get the glade puffing ( tangerine & green tea scent ) from jason’s mkt place at paragon!

it was the last one left of tis scent.

shell onli had tangerine & green tea and jasmine bouquet but i discovered a third scent citrus.

oso got marie a pack of her favourite drink swiss miss.

i was on half day & got back to office at abt 1pm.

marie was oredi running late but waited for mi.

we bade a hasty farewell at the lift lobby before it got too much for both of us.

tis was actualli not a bad idea. at least we haf no time to get overly emotional.

and after all, i’ll be seeing her soon when i visit HK.

she was real sweet and went to the trouble of making & giving all of us a bouquet of flowers each. aren’t my flowers beautiful?

it has pride of place on my desk now.

and she left mi so much stickers! i tink i’ll send the balance to cambodia.

Singapore International Film Fest

SY jio mi to catch some films from Singapore International Film Fest ( SIFF ).

wah! so many different shows, i haben finished reading the synopsis for all of them to make my selection.

and he strongly recommended mi to try anime.

hmm…now i duno abt tat…i always thot anime is juz cartoons.
didn’t realise tat Initial D counts as anime too. so mayb i’ll try to see if i enjoy it.

SY mentioned the no. of films he caught last yr & i said i’ve nbr seen any.

he corrected mi tat yesh, i haf been to one before. try as i might, the memory is so vague tat i reli can’t recall when, where & wat i saw.

Glade Puffing

i didn’t noe wat to get for marie as a farewell or best wishes for her extended business trip gift.

i sent her back last nite & she commented tat my car smells beli nice.
now marie has a beli sensitive nose. she can recognise scents, even from the perfume ppl are wearing. so if she says it’s nice, it muz be quite nice.

alas i decided i’ll get her a glade puffing ( GP ) too for her apt in HK.

i didn’t realise it will be such a daunting task.

i got my GP from the changi rd shell station opp SY’s church. tat’s my fav shell station to top up petrol coz on the way home and carry quite a big variety of stuff.
but i saw tat the GP was already sold out the day before.

1. i decided to go to the shell opp compass point to get the GP.
   well, i discovered tat they don’t carry the product at all, not even the refills.
2. next, i proceeded on the way back & exited at elias for the mobil station.
   now, tis is one interesting station coz the shelves were nearly empty.
   guess, they muz be restocking the whole store. no luck here either.
3. my last stop is the SPC near my place.
   by tis time, i’m quite discouraged & as expected, they don’t haf the GP too.

ARGH! i didn’t realise tat it can be so tough to get another GP. i will stop by another shell station on the way to work. hopefully i will haf good news to report tonite.

who is 洪嘉励?

went to 游龙子 on sat to collect the list of characters for name picking. business is really good. in the short span of time tat we were there, there were ppl coming to collect names & ppl calling for names.

i’m not a big believer of such stuff & i chose the names for yeowyeow & qiqi but it was quite interesting.

the list of characters given was pretty long so it seems like we were spoiled for choice for a name.

but when LJ et moi went thru the list during class, we realised tat some of the characters must be eliminated coz beli hard to combine wif other characters for nice sounding names.

of course, the awful sounding names were out straightaway. and we tried to tink of possible nicknames tat my poor niece may be called in skool for certain combinations.

anyway, my niece has a name now!

观音旦

上个星期六是观音旦。

was supposed to attend the 10.20am class but LJ was tired

good thing we didn’t go for tat class coz had to fetch baby & shupin home.

den we decided to skip the 2 pm class & attend the 4.20pm one so that we’ll finish at 6.30pm which is juz rite for dinner.

so i had time to go praying wif my mum. went to the temple at tembeling road. quite crowded.

again the beautiful flower offerings. mi tinking of getting one for the next occassion too.

as 观音旦 is in celebration of the buddha’s birthday & hence a major day for devotees, there were even food & drinks provided.

there were long tables & chairs set up in the temple compound.

i must be veri hungry. looks at my progress & my mum’s!

ID crisis

parked besides ‘the’ airtrek the other day.

found the sight quite funny coz when i first got my stream, i actualli mistook the airtrek for it. i was trying to ‘beep beep’ it from the stairway & it took mi a while to realise my mistake.

i thot the colour & size looks quite similar

Driving in Orchard

seldom got chance to drive to orchard while it’s still daylight.

no, i seldom go orchard on wkends too. my strategy is to avoid crowded places & places wif horrible parking conditions. hate to wait & wait forever for carpark.

on the way to hospital last wed to visit my newborn niece. couldn’t resist snapping pictures along the way. such a luxury to be in town at tis hr of the day.

Nite of sheer indulgence

sat nite continued wif foto viewing sessions @ SY’s place.

besides our 30GB of angkor pictures, we oso saw HQ’s ermei shan fotos & HJ’s jap fotos.

but highlight of the nite was our sheer indulgence in ice-cream & brownie.

we discovered the 2 camps of supporters for vanilla & chocolate ice-cream

vanilla : moi, SY, ah boon
chocolate : annette, LJ, HQ, xiaomin

HJ has no preference, i tink. though we haf preferences, we still eat both flavours!

one whole brownie cake from secret recipe! so yummy!

LJ et moi had dinner on sat wif annette & ah boon.

i super long time no see annette liao…since YT’s wedding.

LJ et moi went for the 4pm class so we met at bugis. walked ard briefly in icon ( the new building opp seiyu ) for a bit as it was the official opening.

since we can go BBK so easily, dun realli feel like getting clothes of tat quality in sg. can pay for design but no point if it’s stuff tat looks like it flew over from BBK.

Dinner was 麻辣火锅 at 廷园.

we onli had 小辣 and oredi quite hot.

我们真的佷能吃!
tink us 3 gers + 1 guy ate more den the 5 guys + 1 ger sitting at the next table!

my fav is the chilli…the same style as crystal jade. the chilli has been fried so 佷香.

i even invented chilli dumpling which is chilli wrapped wif meat.

i tink i can eat anything wif tat chilli.

and they gave us a ‘4 ppl, 1 dine free’ card so i can go back & enjoy the chilli. haha

LJ was very well prepared for 麻辣火锅 coz she took out 4 packs of tissue wif different designs from her bag…i am impressed!

Cutting hair on 十五

told my mum i was gona cut hair last tue. she went “哪里有人十五剪头发的??”

boh bian leh, ratio was on mc on mon so tue is the first available oppt.

and coincidentally, marie & LJ oso cut their hair tat day.

haha…instead of not cutting our hair, turns out tat 十五 is popular day to cut hair.

in the past i may try not to cut hair on the fifteenth but now heck care lah.

steve couldn’t get reservation at Bala so we ended up at Bungy Bar last nite.

mi not big fan of the place coz i not SPG…haha

good thing, i had LJ there as well. we had some irish stout in celebration of st patty’s day

and u wun believe it, we ran into HQ hoo were having a meeting there.

now i’ve heard abt her meetings at Bala but i tink it’s tough & takes training.

i dun wana tok abt work when i drink.

Glade Puffing

went to pump petrol 2 nites back and saw tis battery operated air freshener called glade puffing. it claims to last 1440hrs on lowest settings. we shall wait & see.

the puffing action has got my front passengers quite facinated.

den i saw jiajun 2 nites ago on 青春游走. oso didn’t noe tat he became a circus trainer cum social worker. such a noble cause. looks like i dun go orchard enuff.

and since i pass by it almost every morning when i park at aliwal, i can’t resist taking fotos.

steve was asking mi for suggestions for the venue on fri.

i thot of villa bali since i found the ambience quite pleasant.
LJ suggested One Rochester @ No. 1 Rochester Park instead.

i didn’t recall y but i was mentioning tis to marie yest & she told mi she’s been to rochester a couple of times.

ok, granted tat we weren’t at acjc for very long. thank goodness!

well, marie wasn’t too impressed by the over zealous staff @ rochester coz they disrupted her catching up session wif frens.

she’s going to villa bali tonite so come tomolo, she’ll b able to tell mi whether rochester or villa is a better place to hang out.

SY’s confessions

went to pick HQ from airport juz now.

i was late coz had to rush to whitesands to pick up anthea’s & renette’s bday presents for the wkend. but real reason is veeko having 70% sale so i bought 2 jackets.

and mum commented tat i haf too many jackets oredi. aiyoh, where got too many one? muz haf varieties mah! all different styles & colours

didn’t haf time for dinner & HQ was hungry coz she finished the dinner on the silkair flight in 5 mouthfuls. those were her exact words but 5 mouthfuls sound incredible!

actualli i am hungry again now. i always get beli hungry when i stay up late.

we went to sakae tat was closing in 40 mins’ time. the conveyor belt was almost empty but luckily we knew exactly wat we wanted so we ordered very quickly.

check out the soft shell crabs! i’ve nbr seen soft shell crabs tat still retain its crab form when served!

i showed them the cambodian pics tat were developed & SY made a confession.

he was totally pissed by my alarms, or rather by our non-reaction to the alarms.
i can sleep thru alarms so i usually set 3 alarms to sound at 15 mins’ intervals.

we had to be ready by 5am in the mornings for sunrise at the temples but SY was the first one to be rudely awakened by the alarms.
he couldn’t believe how LJ & moi can sleep like 死鱼 thru the alarms.
LJ would be the next to wake up & nudge mi awake.
and i was the last to wake up beli reluctantly.

but LJ & SY were beli nice.
they let mi use the bathroom for my morning shower while they brushed their teeth in the common bathroom outside.
i can’t get out of the house / guesthouse without my morning shower.

and ivy was surprised to hear tat i managed to wake up tat earli.
she reminded mi of the 2 wks we spent in sydney when she would walk over to my adjourning room to wake mi up every morning.
den she’ll get ready & come to my room again to wake mi up a 2nd time coz i’ll still b in bed…hehe

Getting a haircut & getting lost on the way

went to ratio’s for a haricut last evening.

saw tis beautiful silver grand voyager when i drove along stamford rd. looking at the time stamp of tis shot, it was 1834 hrs den. i was juz 4 mins late for appt.

thot wilmer place is quite easy to drive but alas, armenian st is one-way when i turned in from stamford rd and onli had a few pathetic parking lots by the road tat were ( of course! ) all taken.

i had to turn out onto hill st so i tried to b smart & ended up lost at fort canning.

had to stop at tis point & consult my st directory tat’s juz 5 yrs old.
coupled wif my fuel light tat came on, i stressed liao.

realised tat i mit to turn into hill st from river valley. alamak! slapped wif ERP along river valley! the parking is free near wilmer but the S$2 ERP is too much!

Sent yeowyeow & qiqi a postcard each from cambodia & the postcards arrived last fri!

from the date i sent the cards ( 3rd march ) , the cards took exactly 1 wk to reach singapore. not too bad considering the average time for overseas postage is 2 weeks.

first time i sent postcard back from travel i tink. quite a fun idea! but more fun to recd the postcards den to send to urself coz the element of surprise is gone when i’m the sender.

i had so many yummy pancakes in cambodia tat i couldn’t resist grabbing a box of pancake mix off the shelf last nite…not tat i noe how to make pancakes.

SY, bet the 3 of us, tink u can most prob cook the best. shall i pass u the pancake mix for u to cook for us?

10th March marks my 9th anniversary wif the company.

i got a pleasant surprise when i recd an email in the morning, from jon ( my boss’ boss ) congratulating mi. such a sweet gesture & it was the first time i got such a mail. i mentioned it to some colleagues during lunch & they wondered if he does tat to all his staff.

i asked steve abt it when i saw him after lunch & he told mi no, tis is the first time he sees it too.

i recalled wat someone once told mi, “ppl dun leave their jobs. ppl leave becoz of their boss.”

how true! u can choose ur job but u can’t choose ur boss. i m beli lucky in tis sense. always had great bosses & tat makes all the difference.

which reminds mi tat i ran into LEK ( ex-boss ) a couple of days back at Thomson when i went for prata wif kk. hmm…and pei kim said tat the stall we ate at is her fav and not casuarina.

frankly, i wasn’t impressed by it. or kk has made mi lost my appetite wif wat we discussed. tat explains my moodiness for the following couple of days. good thing i met su sin & had a good tok.

managed to try the prata at loyang point on sun which is supposedly quite famous too. quite crispy and i like the egg one too. actualli i always prefer prata wif egg or double egg…hehe

so, we went to get our 3 days angkor wat pass after 4.30pm the day before.

Lunch @ Khmer Kitchen

Though most of my fotos are still wif SY, i decided to start posting using LJ’s fotos…haha so expect to see fotos for the same ‘event’ appearing at a later date…we hold our secret ( recipe ) meeting

Since the guys strongly recommended Khmer Kitchen, we decided to do lunch there.

Food was excellent but the service is very very slow…we were starving & nearly fainted from hunger while waiting…haha

we had fish amok, some pumpkin dish, khmer soup and the fried vegs with minced pork dish.

i like the pumpkin and khmer soup the best. super yummy!
